REMINDERS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

2016-2017 Annual Report - Our Annual Report was published in time for the AGM on October 25. Stop in to the Grade School to pick up a copy for yourself, or download a version here: vws.ca/annual-report-2016-17

November Gift Card Winner - Congratulations to Alison McCaig, the November winner of a free $50 gift card!  You too can win free money for groceries simply by placing an order with Ronaye or Sarah or emailing vwsgiftcard@vws.ca.

Gift Card Update - Between the twice-monthly grocery cards and the bonanza orders we had 50 people get involved for November, raising $654.75 towards our total year to date of $1,733.94. These funds will be used by Parent Council to fund initiatives brought to them by Parents, Students, Faculty and Staff. The more people involved, the more funding we'll have!

Thank you - Thank You to Stong's Market, Choices on Marine Drive, and Whole Foods in West Vancouver for very generously donating the food for our Community Coffee House and Leonard Cohen Lounge & Film Festival.

Volunteering - Help us plant 300 flower bulbs before the first frost! Please come see Laura for gardening gloves, tools, and bulbs, and then wait for the bounty of spring flowers! lbergstrome@vws.ca

Community Marketplace - We've had several new additions to our Community Marketplace. Have you taken a look recently? Follow this link to our website to see all the wonderful offerings!

New Family Connect - Did you know that 26 new families have joined our community this school year? We would like to partner each new family with an existing family from another grade to help our newest community members find their footing and connect with more people than those with whom they share a class teacher. Find out more link

Lost and Found - Our Lost & Found is filled with rain jackets, boots, lunch kits, and other children's personal effects. Come take a look before the November break when unclaimed items will be sent to Goodwill.

We are raising money for our year end trip, where we will be participating in two weeks of international community service. Ask any of us for more information. We will have a table at the Children's Christmas Fair and hope to see you there!

UPCOMING EVENTS

Children's Christmas Fair - The 2017 VWS Children’s Christmas Fair is just around the corner on November 18. This event is a time honoured tradition at our school and a wonderful community celebration of the magic and beauty of the winter season. You will find a host of creative activities and events for children, student musical performances, delicious food and beverages, and our very popular Marketplace overflowing with a wide selection of quality handcrafted toys and gifts for children and adults, with an adult-only Night Market the Friday prior. The Christmas Fair is also an Open House and we invite all who are interested to come and learn more about Waldorf education and the Vancouver Waldorf School. Please invite your friends and neighbours! We hope to see you there!
The Inner Life of Bees Study Group - Join us for an in depth exploration of the Meaning of Bees at 7:00 pm on Monday evenings (with a break on November 6). We will meet again in the spring for an additional 5 weeks for a practical hands-on experience learning about bee tending, as we install a hive and introduce honey bees to our Grade School campus.
Fairy Tale Christmas: Iron Hans - Iron Hans is a collaboration between the co-workers and companions with special abilities from the Cascadia Society and students of the Vancouver Waldorf School. Now in its tenth year, this unique project is an artistic production that has proven to be an unforgettable experience for all participants. The fairytale is presented in Eurythmy, an art of movement which makes the words of a story and the accompanying music visible. Hand bells, lyres and other instruments add to the festive mood, to ring in the Christmas season. The magical original score is composed by our very own, multi-talented school Principal, Lorna Fortin.

CLOSING NOTES

Next week the school will be bustling with activity; between Parent Teacher Interviews on Monday and Tuesday, and Teacher Training with West Coast Institute for the remainder of the week, I expect things will be quite different without the children! Our Administrative Offices will be open sporadically during this time should you require any assistance, please do call or email ahead of dropping in. We will be observing Remembrance Day on Friday November 10. Enjoy the November Break and we look forward to seeing you again on the 13th.
Many blessings
