Church Conversation & Fellowship Lunch
THIS Sunday after Worship

Don't forget to bring a dish to share for lunch this Sunday. After we eat, we'll be talking about who we are as a congregation, what it means to become a Reconciling Ministries church within The United Methodist Church, and if that's something we want to consider. There will be activities for the children in the gym once the conversation begins. The church will provide meat and drinks. Please bring a side dish, casserole, or dessert to share. All are welcome.

For more information on Reconciling Ministries, you can visit the Reconciling Ministries Network website.

Avondale Book Fair

Here’s an easy way to support our teachers and staff at Avondale Elementary as they instill a love of reading in their students.  Sign up to work a shift (or two!) at the school’s book fair.  It will be next week - October 30 through November 3 - in the school library.  Click this link to see the available shifts and sign up.  When you go for your shift, make sure to sign in and sign out in the main office to let school officials know you’re there.  Thanks for helping us show love to our local school!!

Holiday Market - Helping Families with Christmas Presents

Our mission arm Avondale Samaritan Place will come alive like a Christmas village to offer affordable toys that parents can purchase at discounted prices.  The mission behind it is to provide toys for kids in need but with the added gift of dignity for parents. Parents will be able to choose toys for their own children, pay for them with their own earnings, and celebrate the holiday season together!  We need help stocking the holiday market to make this happen.

If you like to shop online, we’ve made it easy for you.  You can go to our wishlist on Amazon, purchase one or a few items, and they’ll be shipped directly to us.

OR If you like to go to a store to do your shopping, here’s a list of items that will help us stock the store: dolls-variety of skin colors, Baby Alive, Barbies, Legos, remote control cars, basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, scooters, tricycles, board games, chapter books, craft kits, make-up kits, dress up clothes, baby toys, art supplies

You can drop these items off at ASP beginning the week of November 6. Contact Adam Guthrie to arrange a time.

We have a lot of activities and events vying for our attention in today’s world. The struggle to balance all of it while trying to make church a priority can be challenging. This Sunday in worship we’ll continue our stewardship series “Called” as we develop a deeper understanding of the ways in which God calls us each of into a fuller relationship. From your presence in worship to helping folks in need, our focus this week will be on “showing up” for God in real and tangible ways.

You’re encouraged during these next few weeks to prayerfully consider the ways in which you can serve God and give to the church in 2018. We’ll conclude our “Called” series on November 19 as we re-commit ourselves to the work of the church and lay our 2018 financial pledges on the altar before God.  You can also make your 2018 pledge online.

Remembering the Saints
Sunday, November 5 | 11:00am

Join us in remembering and celebrating All Saints Sunday in worship. During this special service, we will name those from our congregation who have died over the past year … we will allow for other friends and family members to be named aloud … and we will come to Christ’s table to share in holy communion with those present and those who have gone on before us. All are welcome to join us for this meaningful time of worship and remembrance.

Feed a Family for a Year

Are you trying to find a way this Christmas to honor a loved one?  We’ve got an idea for you.  For just $175, you can feed a family for an entire year through our food co-op and give a gift to a loved one that keeps on giving.  When you feed a family for a year, you receive a Christmas ornament like the one in the picture that you can give to a loved one(s) showing them that you donated to a worthy cause in their honor.

Prayers

We offer sympathy to Sunshine Pearson and family in the death of her grandmother.

We’ve found many antique wooden desks stacked in a corner room on the 3rd floor.  They are still in great condition and make great homework spaces for your children or conversation pieces when you’re entertaining guests.  If you’re interested in purchasing any of the desks, email Lesia Robertson in the church office.
