Heroes in History

Note: I wrote this newsletter in October 2017, and just finished writing the articles that I've linked below.. It's not "news"...but it's still really good! : )

The main thing on my mind this month [October 2017] has been marriage, and the honeymoon!  But I also discovered something about heroes--in American and European history, and also in my own family. I promise, we did not spend most of our honeymoon in museums and graveyards! But these stories below were incredible and will bless you.

Mary Washington

George Eskridge was forced by Welsh traffickers in England onto a ship to Virginia. He was coerced to work on a plantation for 8 years, but eventually returned to England to study law. And then, he returned to Virginia, and became a politician. Later, he adopted an orphan girl named Mary, whose parents had been his friends.
I was surprised to learn that there was no formal legal process for adoption at that time. But George Eskridge and his wife Elizabeth raised Mary, until she was married.

Of course, Mary would eventually name her first son George, in honor of her adoptive father. And in 1732, George Washington was born.

Family Heritage

It was my first time to visit Grandma Janie's gravestone, and I didn't expect anyone to be there, except for me, Mei Ying, and my mom. But an older gentleman approached us and asked if we were family.

Mei Ying and I also joined "Rise Up", a call for women to rise up in worship, to intercede for an end to abortion and human trafficking, and to courageously answer God's call to go to the ends of the earth.
