Construction in Heritage Conservation Areas

Did you know there are four Heritage Conservation Areas within the Mid-Western Region. Mudgee, Gulgong, Rylstone and Hargraves. Upcoming editions of the Builders and Developers Update will feature one of the four areas.
If the dwelling or project is located within one of these areas and work such as painting is being undertaken please visit Council and speak with the friendly Duty Planner. Development consent is not required for all works.
Council’s Heritage Advisor is also available to provide advice free of charge. Please phone Council on 6378 2850 to make a booking for one of the monthly visits.

Liquid Trade Waste Inspections Complete

Council has undertaken initial Liquid Trade Waste inspections to assess compliance by local businesses with the new Liquid Trade Waste Policy, developed to protect the region’s sewerage collection and treatment systems.
Businesses found to be discharging liquid trade waste into Council’s sewerage system will be contacted shortly and provided with an application form to begin the approval process. Over the coming months, Council will work with businesses to ensure their properties meet Council Policy requirements and NSW DPI guidelines. Annual Liquid Trade Waste Fees will commence in 2018/19 to cover Council’s administration and inspection costs.

Registering your public swimming pool

Due to potential public health risks from pools the Public Health Act 2010 and associated regulation were introduced in New South Wales in recent years which introduced prescribed operating requirements for public swimming pools and spa pools. These cover matters such as temperature, disinfection systems, disinfection concentrations, pH, alkalinity, testing and record keeping. These are all things that pool operators must understand as without knowledge in these areas the risks to pool users increase greatly. These are the things Council check as part of the swimming pool inspection program.

What tests do pool operators need to carry out on the pools?
All persons operating a public pool must undertake:
  • Chemical testing;
  • Microbiological testing; and
  • Keep records (minimum six months) showing the above.
Public Pool Registration
All public swimming pools and spa pools need to be registered with Council. Registration is easy – simply complete the following Notification of Public Swimming Pool or Spa Pool form.
Any person(s) found to be operating a public pool without having notified Council could be liable for a fine of a maximum 10 penalty units.
