He mihi nui kia koutou i tenei rā,

On behalf of the Enviroschools Te Upoko o Te Ika a Māui team, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and mahi as part of the Enviroschools network in Te Upoko o Te Ika a Māui over 2017, and to wish you a safe, relaxing and fun Christmas holiday.

We have grown in numbers this year. We are finishing 2017 with a total of 112 Enviroschools across the region.  Welcome to Adventure School, Wellington East Girls College, Worser Bay School, Konini School, Smiley Faces, Normandale School, Trentham School, Kidz Corner, Johnsonville Childcare, Paparārangi Kindergarten, Mt Cook Preschool, Moriah Kindergarten, Polyhigh Community Childcare Centre, Papakowhai School, Paremata School and Ngāti Toa School!

We have grown in depth of practice this year. We have celebrated 14 holistic reflections this year.  Well done again to Aroha Montessori, Our Lady of the Rosary School, Pohutukawa Early Learning Centre, Makoura Community, Khandallah School and St Benedicts School who all reflected at Bronze this year.

Congratulations again to our Silver Schools of 2017, Daisies Early Education and Care, Maungaraki School, Arakura Kindergarten, Kelson Kindergarten, San Antonio School and Fernridge School!

And congratulations to our newest Green Gold Enviroschool, Eastern Hutt School!!!!

We have also grown in the number of actions happening. We had so many amazing stories in our newsletters this year. Some highlights for our team have included the recent Bioblitz at Koraunui School, last months regional ECE workshop and supporting Carisbrook School and the Otago Enviroschools team in presenting their petition to ban plastic bags

Thank you in particular to the over 70% of schools and centres who have completed the National Enviroschools census. Wow, ka mau te wehi!!!! I know this took time to complete, and with the demands of Term 4, I’m sure you might have said some words under your breath about it! But thank you, thank you, thank you so much. Your information will contribute to such a rich picture of the Enviroschools programme in our region and nationally.

Our facilitation team worked hard to provide you with a rich and varied calendar of events through the year and we really hope these inspired and stimulated you. We have heaps of exciting events in store for you next year, along with the continued support of your facilitator and our team. We’re super excited to continue working with you!

Ngā mihi, Dana
