Port of Vancouver

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has launched an industry-leading incentive program for marine vessels operating in the Port of Vancouver, aimed at addressing concerns about underwater vessel noise affecting at-risk marine life.

On January 1, 2017, the port authority added new incentive criteria to its existing EcoAction* program to include harbour due rate discounts for quieter ships.

This makes Canada the first country in the world with a marine noise reduction incentive.

It's time for B.C. to say yes to ride-sharing

Our 36,000 members across B.C. strongly agree that we must support smart policies that further improve our economy and make B.C. more livable.

At the B.C. Chamber of Commerce’s 2016 annual general meeting, our members overwhelmingly backed the resolution Ride-sharing — Supporting Industry Innovation, which offered recommendations to government on how to move toward the introduction of ride-sharing in a way that is responsible and fair to other transportation service-providers.

Raising Awareness – Women in Trades

There is a growing number of females joining the skilled trades workforce. At ITA’s 2016 Youth Day, female apprentices/journeypersons, advocates and mentors shared their success stories of overcoming barriers and how they are thriving in their trades careers.

Today, about 10% of registered apprentices in B.C. are women. Needless to say, there is still room for improvement and from what we heard from the women at Youth Day, we all need to do our part in encouraging women of all ages to explore trades careers and provide them with the support and network they need to persevere and achieve certification in their trades.

Watch the video below to hear inspirational women speak about their apprenticeship journey and their career choices.
