Alumnos SEK: alumnos E.C.E

Hagamos juntos excelentes profesionales.

Visiting my children’s school

Last week, we finished our activity "Day of Coexistence". In it, parents visited the school to have a better idea of what a regular day at SEK is all about. Parents walked the school’s facilities, getting to know the new improvements we have made and the ones coming soon.

During this day, the parents visit the classrooms of their children and other units of the school in order to have a more complete idea of the daily school dynamics.
After the visit, they enjoyed the menu of the day with their children.

SCIENCE IS GREAT!

By becoming comfy with science at an early age, children can acquire many long term benefits. Getting children interested in science does not take a lot of time and effort. Their natural curiosity will ease the way. Making it fun is the key element. The learning process in children happens through play. Playing the world is not so intimidating. Kids feel safe, secure and capable. They explore on their own.

There is no need for a special place or equipment for teaching science to kids. Most of the materials and equipment needed can be obtained in home, school, grocery store, etc... One day for Science class, I took the kids outside to study the different types of habitats. Curious as usual, the children started asking questions. “Why is this place wet?” “Why is the grass so green?” “How many insects can we find in it?” At that moment a bulb lighted in my head. We started experimenting with lot of things, and I have to say we sure enjoyed that time. The satisfaction in self-discovery is incomparable.

The important thing is to achieve two things: 1) Questioning of observed events leading to finding information. 2) Promotion of independent thinking and reasoning process in the versatile young minds. It is a lot more fun to do these activities in a group or as a team. Parents or friends can be very good companions. As kids grow up participation in “science fairs” can also bring a good learning experience. So parents get involved with your kids science activities and share with them the excitement of being a scientist and an explorer. Kids will know that science can be fun. Once they get interested they will keep thinking, investigating and inventing forever.

National Park “Los Tres Ojos”

The 5th and 6th graders, visited the National Park Los Tres Ojos, a place underground that the Taino Indians knew, and where some of their ceremonies apparently were celebrated.

That natural space remained forgotten for centuries. Until it was rediscovered in the year 1916 during the North American occupation of the country produced between 1916 and 1924. The great subterranean cavern where they appeared small lakes of transparent fresh water and blue crystalline turned immediately into a whole claim for bathers and curious. These decades still tell stories of the disappeared and drowned.

It was not until 1972 that the group of caves and lagoons were declared a protected area under the name of Three Eyes National Park. The name referred to the three subterranean lagoons although later it was discovered a fourth, the largest and that is found outdoors. The intention of this declaration was to preserve the natural beauty, the environment and the fauna and vegetation of the place.

A wonderful place where stalagmites and stalactites rocks can be seen all around. Another great place where everyone can enjoy our country’s stunning beauty.

Look out there's a dragon about!

Class one have been learning about Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated very widely across the World.  The children have been finding out about the origins of the Chinese Zodiac animals after which the years are named.  Most of the children discovered they were born in either The Year of the Tiger or The Year of the Rabbit.  Unfortunately for them, they have a teacher who was born in The Year of the Dragon!  The children have thought about the different start date of the Chinese New Year and how it is linked to the Lunar calendar.  They have enjoyed making colourful dragon masks and joining in with a lively dance.   It has been great fun.  Brilliant work, everyone.
