ENFit® Transition Success Story

Has your facility started the transition to ENFit?

On January 18th, GEDSA met with Valley Children's Hospital in Madera, California to learn more about their facilities transition to ENFit. The cross-functional team from Valley Children's outlined how they prepared for the transition, gave insight on best practices, identified lessons learned that they could utilize for any future transition and highlighted why they chose to transition. Since ENFit has been implemented at Valley Children's, they have not had any problems with the new system to date. GEDSA captured the interviews on video and will be posting their Success Story to the StayConnected.org website. We plan to continue capturing success stories over the next several months to high light what facilities have done around the world to prepare for a successful transition to ENFit within their health system.

ENFit Adoption Summit Update

Last month, we gathered key stakeholders across the United States to meet in Los Angeles, California where the AB 444 legislation went into affect on July 1st, 2016. The purpose of the Summit was to discuss the biggest concerns holding distributors, facilities and home health companies from transitioning or stocking ENFit products. The Summit was focused on collaborating collectively to resolve any issues to allow more facilities to start the transition to ENFit. Supply was the number one reoccurring theme holding hospitals from transitioning. To resolve the specific concern, we broke the supply issue into four categories and established 'Task Forces'. Each cross functional multi-organizational task force will have different objectives but overall the main goal of each one is to understand how to resolve concerns and break down barriers impeding the adoption to ENFit.

The Medication Preparation and Administration Infographic.

An infographic has been created to illustrate the medication administration and preparation steps while using the ENFit system. It is important to note that some facilities around the world may take different steps when  filling and administering medication via a syringe. The infographic is meant to highlight that no new steps are needed when using the ENFit system but the look and feel of ENFit products are slightly different than what most clinicians are used to using today.

James Langley - PharmD, UW Health

"Ensuring patient safety is a main goal for every hospital. Understanding the work that has been done to reduce the risk of medical device misconnections is a way UW Health has taken steps towards a safer environment for our patients. GEDSA has taken the lead to build the necessary relationships across all faucets of the medical industry to allow facilities like us to understand, plan and transition to ENFit. Over the next year, I am excited to see hospitals take a step towards this patient safety initiative and plan to implement ENFit."

  Have you told?

It is important to communicate to the home health companies and retail pharmacies in your area that your facility has transitioned to ENFit. Find the representatives from those outside organizations you rely on most and invite them to be apart of your transition team. This will allow everyone to take the necessary steps to ensure there is adequate supply of ENFit products to continue care for the patient as they return home.
