February student newsletter

Survey Month

It’s student survey season and your opportunity to tell us about your academic experience here at Bristol. Have your say by taking part. Your opinion counts and it is through this process that we collect and use your feedback to inform ongoing improvements to your student experience.

Do you know where to go for wellbeing support?

Your welfare is our highest priority. Visit our wellbeing site for information and advice on how to look after yourself and where to seek help if needed, and what to do if you are concerned about someone else.

What to do about unacceptable behaviour

We aspire to a culture where everyone feels valued and diversity is respected. If you’ve experienced unacceptable behaviour towards yourself or others please tell us via the Students’ Union’s Just Ask advice service or speak to a member of staff, such as your Personal Tutor, Supervisor, Senior Tutor or our residences pastoral team. Unacceptable behaviour includes racism, threatening behaviour, sexual harassment or using online media for negative statements against students or staff (see more details). Please be assured we will take your complaint seriously. We have taken immediate action in the recent case of racist abuse reported in the media.

Tyndall Avenue development

As part of our new strategy we plan to redevelop facilities and the outdoor space along Tyndall Avenue to create a welcoming student-centred heart to our main campus. We want your views on the facilities planned and the ways in which you would like to access them, and will be consulting with students this month – look out for the pop-up stand on Tyndall Avenue.

Financial support

If you are a UK student in financial difficulty, you may be eligible for a financial award from the Financial Assistance Fund. For Student Money Week, follow us on Twitter this week for financial advice and tips. If money is causing you stress, please visit our wellbeing web pages for guidance and support.

Improving library lending

Following your feedback, we’ve made changes to the lending of library materials to improve your experience of borrowing and renewing items and make it easier for you to manage your library account. For more information about these changes please speak to our library staff.

Careers: Perfecting applications and interviews

We’re holding an opportunity for you to compete with others and become interview ready. It's designed to help you get to where you want to be, developing your confidence in all areas of the application and selection process.

Did ‘Find a Study Desk’ work for you?

The new Find a Study Desk service ran between 9-20 January and will return in March to support the Summer exam period. We would really value your feedback on the service so that we can make it even better next time - please email your comments to library-enquiries@bristol.ac.uk

To all EU and international students and staff: 'You are truly valued and appreciated'

Thangam Debbonaire, MP for Bristol West, and Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol, have written a letter of support to all EU and international students and staff at the University. Read the letter and all referendum updates on our webpage.
