For a number of years, FUMC has been the charter organization for Boy Scout Troop 298. Rick Moninghoff has faithfully served as the scoutmaster, with a number of church members supporting the troop in various roles. The Troop is in danger of losing its charter because there are currently not enough of the required number of adults serving in leadership. At this point the troop is small in number, but there are two boys who are working hard to complete their Eagle Scout requirements. If you would be willing to help in some way, please contact Rick Moninghoff.

Sister's Bible Study
Women of all ages -  you are invited to pick up the book we are reading in Sisters over the winter and will discuss in one session in a few weeks (exact date to be determined depending on winter weather).
The book is What's So Amazing About Grace?, by Phillip Yancey. Books are available in the church office for $10.

"Yancey offers compelling, true portraits of grace’s life-changing power. He searches for its presence in his own life and in the church. He asks, How can Christians contend graciously with moral issues that threaten all they hold dear? And he challenges us to become living answers to a world that desperately wants to know, What’s So Amazing About Grace?"

Youth and Children Ministries

This Sunday, Feb. 12 -   Day on the slopes! We have reached our limit of registrations. If for some reason you are not able to attend and already registered - please let me know ASAP!

Youth will meet at 8:30 am and sit together in the early worship service. You can wear your ski clothes to worship. The group will leave as soon as the service is over and head to Cataloochee. Youth should finish on the slopes late afternoon and call or text parents as we are leaving to let you know of our arrival time. A reminder to bring lunch money, gloves, etc., and turned in all forms and money.

Because of this special activity, Encounter and youth group will not meet as usual.

Remember to turn in Famine registrations! Parents - adult help still needed!

Below is a picture of some of our youth with Mayor Scott as he proclaimed Hunger Awareness Month!

Youth Day on the Slopes
Sun., Feb. 12th

Now that our snow has just melted, it's time to think about our upcoming Day on the Slopes on Sunday, Feb. 12!  You MUST register in advance by Feb. 5! You can choose either to ski, snowboard, or just have fun hanging out with some of our group in the lodge. Youth FAMILIES are invited, or you can invite a friend to come with you. Just make sure all are registered by Feb. 5.

Penny an Inch

Every year the children of First United Methodist Franklin participate with the Famine program by collecting pennies to help feed the hungry of Macon County by raising funds for CareNet.  Once again we are participating in “a Penny an Inch” by measuring our height and bringing pennies or change for that amount.  We would like to invite you to participate with us.  Perhaps you would share this information with friends and family because the children really enjoy seeing where the letters and cards come from especially those who are far away or from a different country.  We read each note and locate donors on our map.
The instructions are easy, measure your height (ex 5’ 8” - $.68) and tape coins onto a card or letter and write a brief note to our children telling them where you live and mail it to:

First United Methodist Church
Attn: Marti Patterson
66 Harrison Ave.
Franklin, NC  28734

For those of you who are local, you can place them in my mailbox in the church office. On Sunday, Feb 26th, the children will open the letters and cards and separate the coins. Thank you so much for making this event special to our children and a blessing to our community.
