The Foreign Minister of Qatar says his country is against President Donald Trump's blanket banning of refugees and travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani said he hopes US authorities will further assess the move and "we hope that they are going to do the right thing" about it.
In the State of Qatar’s latest Newsletter, Ambassador Sheikh Meshal Al-Thani committed to promoting the US-Qatar bilateral relationship via economics, defense, and education. He hopes to forward the goals of QIA’s $35 billion investment in the United States. He expressed interested in promoting US-Qatar defense ties via Qatar’s commitment to combating terrorism and extremism as an active member of the US-led coalition. And lastly, he emphasized the importance of helping to promote youth and preventing disenfranchised young people from falling toward violence and extremism.
Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi described his recent visit to Doha as successful, thanking Qatar’s Emir for his continued support. In a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), the Yemeni president said that he held talks with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, during which they reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways of developing and strengthening them, in addition to many issues of common interest. Qatar has contributed significant forces to helping stabilize Yemen.

GCC countries are expected to award healthcare contracts worth $6.5bn in 2017 based on current project schedules, according to a new report. In 2016, projects worth $4bn were awarded in this region. According to Ventures ONSITE, which tracks construction projects, the GCC healthcare construction industry is all set to continue its healthy position in 2017, fueled by demographic and macroeconomic factors.

The Qatar Financial Center Regulatory Authority (QFC Regulatory Authority) and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) have entered into an agreement to promote human resource (HR) development and to create access to the highest levels of accreditation for HR professionals. The agreement was signed by Chief Operating Officer of the QFC Regulatory Authority Eisa Ahmed Abdulla and Middle East Managing Director of CIPD, Matthew Mee.

The International Federation of Building and Wood Workers (IFBWW), a global federation of trade unions based in Geneva and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) began the first round of inspection for construction sites and accommodation. The two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding in November last year which took effect last month, the Qatar News Agency reported. The MoU provides for the inspections, training and a review of the SC’s current occupational health and safety and workers welfare standards including grievance mechanisms. The IFBWW inspection and certification lends an important imprimatur to the fact that Qatar meets international standards for workers’ safety.
Two Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) alumni are making a difference by educating hundreds of children in Pakistan. Their startup, Orenda, uses cartoons and digital streaming technology to bring school curriculums to four and five year old children living in some of the country’s most at-risk areas.

Qatargas has supplied more than 2,600 shipments of of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Japan during the past two decades, said Eng. Saad Sherida al-Kaabi, Managing Director and CEO of Qatar Petroleum and Board Chairman of Qatargas. Speaking at a ceremony hosted by Qatargas on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the first delivery of natural gas Qatari LNG to Japan this evening, Eng. al-Kaabi said that was not possible without the Qatargas prominent clients trust and cooperation of the company's partners in Japan, which is the first Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) customers.
Alfardan Automobiles, the official MINI importer in Qatar, marked another year of growth, with sales increasing by 7% compared to 2015. The MINI 3-door Hatch, and John Cooper Works models were the top performers and contributed to Alfardan Automobiles being named the winner of the MINI Middle East Regional Dealer Competition. The MINI John Cooper Works segment achieved the highest growth in the region with a total of 14.7% increase, accounted for the largest sales share for the Qatari importer.
Raytheon has won a foreign military sales (“FMS”) contract from the US Army to provide engineering services for the PATRIOT weapon systems program. The contract is valued at $202.2 million. It was awarded by the Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, AL. Per the contract, Raytheon will provide engineering services to Germany, Israel, Japan, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Netherlands, Qatar, Spain and Taiwan.
