Winter Bike to Work and School Day

Friday February 10 is Winter Bike to Work and School Day! Click here to commit to bike to work or school.

Drop by our booth on the Civic Plaza in front of the Civic Centre, to have your photo taken to show your support for International Bike to Work Day! You can also enter a draw for either a one year CRANKED membership or a copy of Frost Bike.

Our photo booth will be in operation from 8:00 am to 9:00 am, 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, and 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. We will be giving away muffins generously supplied by Origins at Spring Creek, as well as reflective arm and leg bands and reflective stickers to make you more visible at night.

In addition, at noon our volunteer mechanics will give your bike a little loving attention. Join the excitement as we strive to be recognized as one of the top winter cycling communities in the world!

If you bike to work or school on Feb 10th, be sure to stop by Good Earth Cafe for a complimentary hot chocolate or cookie.

Bicicles Movie Night

Come to the Canmore premiere of Bicicles on Sunday March 5 at 7:00pm at artsPlace. Entry is $10 and all proceeds will go to fund Canmore Community Cruisers' programs to encourage cycling. Tickets available online and at the door.

Bicicles celebrates those people who refuse to stop biking to work in the face of snow and sleet. Filmed during the winters of 2014/16, the documentary follows four people on their typical winter commute. Along with interviews of city councillors, business and everyday cyclists, the film explores how winter cycling is becoming mainstream.

Watch the trailer or read more about the movie here.

CCC is seeking volunteers to help with manning the doors and concession for the Bicicles showing. If you'd like to help out please e-mail us at canmorecommunitycruisers@gmail.com.

School Travel Planning Comes to Canmore

Canmore is in the midst of its first School Travel Planning project, a pilot project at Lawrence Grassi Middle School (LGMS) in partnership with the Canmore Community Cruisers, the Town of Canmore, and the Alberta Traffic Safety Fund.

An ambitious action plan has now been finalized with the goal of making the active school journey to LGMS safer, more enjoyable and efficient. The action items include $200K of infrastructure improvements over two years along routes to school, identifying preferred routes to school, improving student’s safe cycling skills, improving student’s visibility in low light conditions and encouraging students to walk, bike, and roll to school. Read More...
