Newsletter #1

10th February 2017

Kia ora whānau,

Welcome back everyone and many warm wishes to all our new families that have joined the Arthur Street School community.  We know you have made the right decision to join us here and hope you and your children have enjoyed their first week our schooling here at Arthur Street.

As our 2016 families will remember, funds raised from last years school fair have supported the reduced cost of swimming for term 1.  This means that all that families pay is $5.00 per student for 8 weeks of lessons. The major purchase from the school fair funds has been large screen televisions and an apple tv device for each classroom.  During the holidays all classrooms have been fitted out and I can't wait to get around each class to see how our staff and children are using these new investments.  I will keep you all updated about what I see.  In the mean time, here are the staff, on their teacher only day, participating in some professional development and putting the new screens to use.

Enjoy your weekend.

Nga mihi,

Kim Blackwood

Principal

Sport @ Arthur Street School
Stay tuned to read results and stay up to date with how our teams are performing!
A great start to our swimming sessions today.  It was super to see the enthusiasm and effort from all swimmers!  Over the coming weeks the focus for the seniors will be: fitness, endurance and speed, lifesaving skills and stroke technique.
A big thank you to the PTA for subsidising the cost of these lessons.
Please note that senior swimming will be this coming Tuesday instead of Friday for week 3 only.  Back to normal week 4 onwards.

Michelle will be sending out the school accounts in the month of March for 2017.  Once again there will be a period of time that you can get a discount on your School Fee donation if your account is paid in full.  Please take note of these dates when you receive your account.
With the success of the introduction of the activity fee in 2016, we have set an activity fee of $30.00 again this year  This was very successful for all concerned. Money not spent in 2016 has been credited to individual family accounts for 2017.

HELP SUPPORT SUSTAINABLE COASTLINES MOBILE PHONE APPEAL IN OUR SCHOOL
It would be great if you could rummage around in your drawers and toy boxes and bring into School any unwanted mobile phones you may have.  Phones collected help our School gain valuable rewards and the environment benefits too by keeping our landfills free of mobile phones and their array of hazardous toxic substances. Please drop any unwanted mobile phones you may have in the collection box in the reception area at School.
What is the ANZ Olympic Schools Programme

ANZ has developed the ANZ Olympic Schools Programme with the New Zealand Olympic Committee to inspire and motivate New Zealand's youth, through the magic and celebration of the Olympic Games. Schools will be provided with resources and merchandise to provide opportunities, activities and incentives for students to live the Olympic Values.

In addition to the great resources schools can receive, ANZ has also tailored the programme so their staff can personally help schools earn credits to spend at the ANZ Awards Centre and also secure the chance to have an Olympic Ambassador visit the school.

ANZ staff will be encouraging people within their school communities to support their school and come to ANZ for their next home loan.  For every home loan drawn down a school can earn credits to spend on items from the ANZ Awards Centre, items such as sports equipment or computers.  As an example an eligible home loan drawn down by someone linked to your school to the value of $50k or more will entitle the school to 800 credits. 800 credits equates to approximately $400 of spending power at the ANZ Awards centre.

If you would like to support our school with this programme,
Laura Fleming Senior Personal Banker 03 457 0223 would love to assist you.
