Parish council freezes share of council tax bills for fifth successive year
Buckhurst Hill Parish Council has unanimously agreed to freeze its share of council tax bills for a fifth successive year.
Councillors have set the council's 2017-18 precept at £356,465 which means that the Parish Council’s share of a Band D council tax bill remains at £68.89 for the fifth successive year.
Buckhurst Hill is one of the most densely populated parish council areas in the Epping Forest district but has managed to remain a low tax council whilst still providing an extensive range of services to the local community; including annual support for keeping the public library open for two additional days each week, the maintenance of the playgrounds, older persons forum, the Community Cinema screenings as well as the Christmas lights and 'Christmas in Queens Road' event.
Council chairman Neville Wright, speaking following the decision of the parish counvil at its meeting last Thursday, said “We have delivered the fifth consecutive freeze in the precept, with improved services. We will always fight to deliver better services for the people of Buckhurst Hill.
"We set out not to increase the precept if at all avoidable and I am delighted to say that we have delivered just that, no increase."
