Killer News For Serial Mom |
You may have noticed the quiet that emanated from Shout! on January 27. That morning, we all boarded a bus to My Friend’s Place, an organization serving homeless youth, for a day of service. It was a moving experience and one that we’ll not soon forget. In keeping the momentum going, we’ll be donating proceeds from sales at ShoutFactory.com to MFP all month. Details are here. We also encourage you to visit their official site, learn about the great things they do and make a donation to them directly.

Get your digital monsters ready! Shout! Kids, along with Toei Animation, have signed a deal to bring the first three Digimon Adventure tri films to DVD and Blu-ray, starting this year with Reunion! The adventure picks up where the original series left off, six years after Tai and his fellow “DigiDestined” crossed into the Digital World. The films feature the original voice actors and will include both the English audio as well as the original Japanese audio with English subtitles. Look for more information soon!

Production is underway for Howard Lovecraft And The Undersea Kingdom, the follow up to last year’s amazing Howard Lovecraft And The Frozen Kingdom. This film introduces new characters, which means new voice talent as well. And here’s why we’re so excited: Mark Hamill is joining the cast as Dr. Henry Amitage, Re-Animator’s Jeffrey Combs voices King Abdul, Christopher Plummer returns as Dr. Herbert West and Hellraiser’s Doug Bradley plays Nyarlathotep. Stay tuned for updates as we get closer to release. |

Speaking of voice talent, we’re working with Legacy Classics to bring a new series of Boxcar Children films to you. Surprise Island is our first and has just added Dane DeHaan (Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets) to the role of “Joe,” a handyman with a mysterious past. He joins the previously announced cast, which includes Martin Sheen and J.K. Simmons. We’re releasing this film later in the fall, which coincides with the 75th anniversary of the Gertrude Chandler book series.

Based on the award-winning manga by Fumiyo Kouno, the film is written and directed by Sunao Katabuchi (Mai Mai Miracle and Princess Arete). Look for it in theaters this summer!

Horror anthology Deadtime Stories makes its Blu-ray debut on February 28, courtesy of Scream Factory. The Blu-ray/DVD combo includes a new hi-def transfer from the original negative, plus a new audio commentary with co-writer/director Jeffrey Delman, an interview with Delman and actors Cathryn de Prume, Melissa Leo and Scott Valentine, an alternate cut of the first story, deleted scenes and more. “Animation fans will be more delighted by director Rémi Chayé’s clean, spare designs, which look especially impressive when the heroine approaches the North Pole, looking like a small dot of warmth in a vast expanse of chilly white.” – Noel Murray, Los Angeles Times
“The story is fascinating and provides some significant emotion. Technical merits are strong, and Long Way North comes highly recommended” – Jeffrey Kaufman, Blu-Ray.com

“One of the better purely hand-drawn animated films of 2016.” – Ain't It Cool News
“A lyrically beautiful, engrossing, old-school adventure tale… Long Way North easily makes the short list of top animated features of 2016, if not the past 5-10 years.” – Ed Liu ToonZone
“Long Way North fits comfortably alongside recent feminist stories like Frozen and Moana, and should enchant kids while holding their parents’ attention through its animation.” – Film Score Monthly (January Chiller Edition) |
