2016 Year in Review
Happy New Year from the prpl Foundation! 2016 was a great year for prpl, an open-source, non-profit foundation focused on data center-to-device portable software and virtualized architectures, and for the markets we serve.
We're kicking off this issue of our new quarterly newsletter with a look back at prpl's activities over the past year. Clearly there is a lot here; we hope this gives you an idea of the many important initiatives in which prpl is involved. Below are the top 2016 announcements, articles, interviews and videos. I'd like to draw particular attention to the new strategic alliances we formed late last year with CABA - an international smart building association - and with the IoTSF - a UK based security initiative. We expect these alliances to provide big benefits to our respective members. See the new member section below. Enjoy!
Also, please see us at the embedded world conference, March 14-16, 2017 at the Exhibition Centre in Nürnberg, Germany. To set up a meeting with prpl executives at embedded world, please contact us.
Best regards,
Art Swift, President, prpl Foundation

Smart Home Security Report
Research Findings from a prpl Foundation Study, September 2016. Smart device adoption has reached a tipping point - the smart home is already here! But, the smart home is woefully insecure due to users’ failure to follow best practices. Smart home users do prefer security to usability, and are prepared to take more responsibility.

Security Guidance Note
Security is a core requirement for manufacturers, developers, service providers and other stakeholders who produce and use connected devices. Most of these – especially those used on the “Internet of Things” – rely on a complex web of embedded systems. Securing these is a major challenge, and failure to do so can result in significant harm to individuals, businesses and to nations. Guidance in this report provided by prpl Foundation will help stakeholders address the challenges to securing embedded devices.
