Ride + Stride breaks records in 2016
In 2016 our Ride+Stride supporters raised £49,142, the best result in our 35-year history! Well done to the GHCT community of cyclists, walkers,
horse-riders, welcome party members and of course all our sponsors.
This year’s Ride + Stride is on Saturday 9 September and our new interactive map will be updated regularly with details of the churches taking part (including those offering a welcome party with tea and cake!) Why not use the map to help you plan a route, or find a route submitted by another Rider or Strider?
If you could help us by acting as a local organiser if your church doesn’t have one, please contact Glenn the County Organiser. Then come along to our AGM and Ride + Stride social on June 7. We’ll be issuing sponsorship packs and it’s a great opportunity to meet other local organisers and participants.
Thank you again to all who took part this year to help us to our record-breaking total and thanks also to all those helping us plan for 2017.
Glenn Duff, County Organiser

St James, Lockleaze: £5000
Lockleaze is one of the poorest and most deprived wards in Bristol. St James’ church building had fallen into disuse, but under the leadership of Revd Dave Jeal a new congregation is happily worshipping here once more. GHCT is helping to install a cabin behind the church to create a space for Sunday school as well as teaching, counselling and social interaction during the week.

Holy Trinity, Stapleton: £7500
There has been a church on this site in North Bristol for 500 years; the current Gothic Revival building was completed in 1857.
Since then, deterioration of the roofs has reached a point where all the slates need replacing, and the gutters have to be renewed. The cost of repairing the roof of this Grade II* listed building is estimated to reach £240,000.

St Nicholas, Oddington: £4000
The magnificent medieval ‘Doom’ wall painting attracts visitors from all over the world. Last February, thieves removed the copper covering from the church roof. Rain poured in, damaging the paintings (pictured, left). After a year drying out, the expensive repair work can begin.
