Past President's Luncheon Recap
At our January luncheon, the Chapter honored our past presidents of the Montgomery Chapter AIA and thanked our outgoing president, Paul Zanglin, for a year of hard work and excellence in leadership. We also welcomed our incoming president Simon Hurst, as well as the new Chapter Officers for the year. Simon served as speaker for the luncheon and provided an overview of the proposed budget for 2017 and his goals for the year. The budget was approved by the Chapter Officers and seconded by the Chapter Members.

CSI Chapter Meeting
February 7 (Tuesday) CSI, The Montgomery Chapter of the Construction Specification Institute, will be having their monthly chapter meeting at the Montgomery Country Club. Please join CSI for a free lunch and an HSW CEU Credit
The program will be "PMMA/PMA Liquid Applied Roofing & Waterproofing," presented by Joel Garland, Waterproofing & Wall Systems Representative, Soprema. Joel will explain the performance characteristics and applications of liquid membranes, specifically in their use to preserve existing building components.

Elizabeth Lowery, a 1983 interior architecture alumna, has been appointed to the Design Museum Foundation Board of Directors. Read more here.
Charlene LeBleu, FASLA, Interim Head of the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture, has been selected to be a Research Category Jurist for the 2017 American Society of Landscape Architecture Professional Awards. ASLA juries represent the breadth of the profession, including private, public, institutional, and academic practice and exemplify diversity in professional experience and all other areas. The judging will take place in May in Washington DC. Read more here.
Visit Birmingham Museum of Art's exhibition,"Third Space" where you'll find Rural Studio's latest installation “2x” (two by). After the exhibition, every piece of wood will be moved from the museum and used to build a home in Newbern, AL. Read more here.
In past issues of StudioAPLA featured alumni from the Interior Design or Interior Architecture programs have been featured as a precursor to a very exciting event coming in March, the 90_20 Anniversary celebrating the founding of interior design within the School of Architecture and its evolution, 20 years ago, to the Interior Architecture dual-degree program offered today. The speaker for the February luncheon will be Kit Crum with Cambria.
Kit will present a HSW CEU course that will present the fundamentals of quartz surfacing. Specification best practices will be discussed regarding the many ways quartz can be used in commercial applications. She will examine how to choose the best surfaces for specific applications, as well as quality control considerations for manufacturing variables.
