Register Now For Strategic Planning for Farm Operations: February 13

Don't miss the third workshop in the Sonoma County Winegrower’s Succession Planning Series. On Monday, Feb. 13, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek in Santa Rosa, SCW will be welcoming Dr. David Kohl, a nationally recognized strategic and financial agricultural planning expert.

Dr. Kohl will provide an overview on the state of the U.S. economy, global economics and an overview on trade, regulations and market changes occurring in Europe, China and across the globe. He will cover mega trends in consumer behavior, economics, innovation and trade. During the latter part of the day, Dr. Kohl will walk attendees through business planning, financial dashboards, common mistakes and the cornerstones of a successful business.

Kohl has conducted more than 6,000 workshops and seminars for agricultural groups and he has published four books and over 1,500 articles on financial and business-related topics. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Agricultural Economics from Cornell University. For 25 years, Kohl was Professor of Agricultural Finance and Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia.

Register Your Vineyard Employees to Compete in Sonoma County’s Annual Pruning Championship: February 17

Sonoma County Winegrowers invite you to participate in the 18th Annual Sonoma County Pruning Championship! Wineries who own vineyards can register their vineyard employees to compete in this Sonoma County tradition.

The Pruning Championship is Friday, Feb. 17 from 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the SRJC Shone Farm. In case of rain or extreme weather, the Pruning Championship will be postponed to the following Friday, Feb. 24.

SCW encourages eligible vineyard management companies, vineyard, and winery entities to register their vineyard employees and qualified pruners to compete.

  • The competition is open to vineyard management companies based in Sonoma County and vineyard/winery entities who own vineyards in Sonoma County District 3).
  • The number of contestants (pruners) will be limited to 60 total. Two contestants (pruners) per vineyard or winery entity or vineyard management company.
  • Applications are due February 10. Walk-in contestants will not be accepted.
  • Contestants (pruners) will be pre-assigned heats and vine rows, with the top two contestants (pruners) from each heat advancing to the final heat.
  • Cash and other great prizes go to the winners and lunch will be served.
