THE PLAYBOOK:
52 Rules to Aim,
Shoot and Score in
This Game Called Life

(HMH;
photos by Thai Neave)

Alexander [The Crossover] uses basketball as a metaphor for growth on and off the court in this stirring collection of 52 motivational poems-as-rules, grouped into four thematic sections (Grit, Motivation, Passion, and Teamwork and Resilience) that correspond to the quarters of the game.

We already know it’s going to be
a slam dunk!

"The advice never feels heavy-handed and the author's voice shines through."
KIRKUS

Stay tuned for a deal announcement for Brynne’s next picture book manuscript, soon!

"This is not a book.  It's a loony look.  A clever, rhythmic, rhyming, rollicking, magical celebration of whimsy and words that soar off the page.  But, if this were a book -- with incredibly inspiring illustrations -- it would surely hook young readers."

-- Kwame Alexander
2015 Newbery Medal Award Winner

Up next: Barnes will speak at the State of Maryland International Reading Association Council (SOMIRAC) in March.

Alma Fullerton's
WHEN THE RAIN COMES

illustrated by Kim La Fave
(Pajama Press)

STARRED KIRKUS review

"...Fullerton’s rhythmic tale holds a universal message: that even the smallest and youngest among us can summon up the courage to face, and overcome, the most gargantuan challenges...A beautiful introduction to life and culture on a little-known island nation―and a delightful read whether for the first or the 100th time."

KIRKUS

Alma Fullerton's free-verse novels for juvenile and young adult readers have earned her multiple nominations and awards, including the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Award and the CLA Book of the Year Honour.

Alma's first picture book, A GOOD TRADE (which also received a KIRKUS star)
has been a White Ravens Choice, a Bank Street Best Book, and nominee for the OLA Forest of Reading Blue Spruce Award and the Kentucky Bluegrass Award, among others.

IN A CLOUD OF DUSTabout African bicycle libraries, won the Rainforest of Reading Award, was nominated for the OLA Blue Spruce Award, and was a Foreword Magazine Best Children’s Books of Fall 2015 selection.

Congrats to MOVE IT MISS MACINTOSH by Peggy Janousky and illustrated by Meghan Lands (Annick Press). It's received an Honorable Mention in the Picture Book category at the 2017 Ontario Library Association (OLA) Super Conference.

Starred PW Review for Dave (D.J.) Butler's debut science fiction adult title,
WITCHY EYE (Baen/ March 2017)--the first in a trilogy:
"Butler’s fantasy is by turns sardonic and lighthearted; ghoulish shadows claw into the most remote areas and heroism bursts out of the most unlikely people. Sarah is the epitome of the downtrodden hero who refuses to give up until she gets what she needs, and her story will appeal to fantasy readers of all stripes."

WITCHY EYE is mentioned in the February issue of Sci Fi Magazine (170,000 circulation)!

you can’t stop yourself from taking another bite…and another…and another…I didn’t want to stop reading…. Kudos!”
R.A. Salvatore, NYT Bestselling Author
