Order Produce

First of all, we have some mixed greens for sale this week, so order them before we're sold out!  We have sold out of carrots.

Many of you have asked...

What is a CSA?  CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture.  You buy a season-long membership in the farm and in exchange you receive Moose Meadow Farm’s top quality, certified organic produce at a discounted rate.

What does it cost?  We offer full and half share options.  A full share costs $585 plus tax, a half share costs $300 plus tax.  Over the 26-week season that is an average of $22.50 per week for a full share and $11.50 per week for a half share.

How does it work?  Many CSA farms pack a box for their members each week.  We want to give our customers more of a choice in what they get.  Therefore our members use our online store to order precisely what they want.  Members are able to order Thursday through Sunday each week  before their pick up, and may draw down their prepaid account, like a debit account, until the balance is $0.

What if I go on vacation?  No problem!  We will remind members of their account balance each week throughout the season, and members can opt to spend from $0 to $55 (full share) or $0 to $35 (half share) each week until their balance is $0.  It’ll be easiest on the members and the farmers if members spend close to the average amount, but as mentioned, members have the freedom to spend what they want each week.  We won’t be able to carry over your balance to next season, but we will donate the value (in produce) of any balance remaining by the end of the season to the Bonner Community Food Bank.  Alternatively, you can opt for us to donate any amount of your share to the Food Bank any week if you are going away.

What is the discount?   The discount is 4% off of retail price.  That means that full share members pay us $585, but their account balance starts at $607.50.  Half share members pay us $300, but their account balance starts at $311.50.  That is the equivalent to one week of free produce at $22.50 (full share) or $11.50 (half share).  Members also receive a weekly newsletter and are invited to a free midsummer farm tour and potluck.

Can I pay in installments?  Yes!  The cost to sign up is $195 (full share) or $150 (half share) due by 5/1 at the latest, and must be paid to reserve a spot.  Full share members have the option of two more payments of $195 due 6/1 and 7/1.  Half share members have the option of two more payments of $75 due 6/1 and 7/1.  Full payment for both share types is due by 7/1.

What if I don’t want to choose my items?  Katherine and Spencer will happily pack a bag for any member who doesn’t want to choose.  Members can select this option when ordering each week.  The bag will be valued at close to the weekly average and will contain a diverse mix of produce.

What types of produce do you grow?  We grow a wide array of vegetables, flowers and herbs, and employ numerous season extension techniques so that we have items earlier and later than one might expect.  See our availability chart for more detail.

Where do I pick up my produce?  Delivery to Sandpoint is Tuesdays (5/9 through 10/31) at Evans Brothers Coffee from 4-6 pm.  The Clark Fork distribution is Wednesdays (5/10 through 11/1) at Moose Meadow Farm from 3-5 pm.

How do I sign up?!  You can sign up on our website, www.moosemeadoworganic.com/signup or you can mail us a check (made out to Moose Meadow Farm) with your down payment: PO Box 94, Clark Fork, ID, 83811.

We are a customer-focused farm and aim to please!  Let us know if you have any questions.

Katherine made this recipe up to use some of our sweet winter carrots.

1 cup Bob's Red Mill 10 Grain Cereal, or similar hot cereal mix
1 1/4 cups plain raw yogurt
1 cup grated carrots
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 egg, beaten
3/4 cup raisins
1 tablespoon fresh or dried orange zest

1. Put cereal mix and yogurt in a large bowl and let sit at least 15 minutes.  Preheat oven to 350F.
2.  Mix in all the remaining ingredients except raisins.  Stir to mix well but don't beat the batter.
3.  Add the raisins and gently mix in.
4.  Drop by the heaped tablespoon onto a greased baking tray.  Bake 15 minutes, rotating half way through if your oven requires it.  Cool 10 minutes on tray, then remove to a rack or platter.
