President's Message

As this year's President for Skål Canada, I want to share a vision for the upcoming year and outline what I believe are our National Board’s priorities for this term.  To help accomplish this, we are refining our three year plan and establishing strong working committees to deliver our goals....

Create Awareness of Skål
As stakeholders in Canada’s thriving tourism industry it is important Skål Clubs are engaged with the regional organizations that grow tourism revenues in their markets.  Increasing the awareness of Skål thru our tourism partner’s organizations will not only help to grow the profile of Skål, it will increase resources to attract new members.  I encourage our Skål Clubs to invite CEOs of Tourism, Presidents of DMOs and tourism officials alike to join Skål.

It is important Skål Clubs in their respective regions are aligned with the goals of tourism and participate in major tourism gatherings like Rendezvous Canada, Bienvenue Quebec and OMCA to name a few.  We are working on new initiatives to help our Club identify these key opportunities and to connect with a broad base of potential members.  These partnerships will help to keep Skål top of mind within the tourism community we all participate in and strive to grow.  Skål is, and will continue to be a viable partner in the growth of our tourism destinations

Expanding Skål Networks
Skål provides a global network of tourism and travel partners.  Skål Clubs must encourage members to use that network to their advantage.  We must encourage our members to expand their networks beyond their local club level and reach out to members across Canada and around the world.  Reaching out to members across the globe will create new friendships, provide potential business opportunities and increase the value of our organization.  Attending Congresses, other Skål clubs’ meetings and visiting with Skål members will help introduce members to a world of opportunity all within reach.

Investing in Tomorrow
As leaders in our industry we have an opportunity to raise the profile of Skål and shape the tourism leaders of tomorrow.   Our Universities and Colleges are producing graduates eager to enter the tourism industry.  We have an opportunity to introduce young professionals to our organization through Young Skål and increase the sustainability of Skål and the future of Tourism.  Surrounding ourselves with young tourism professionals is crucial to the growth and success of Skål

President Attends Joint Canada/ USA Meetings
Skal Canada and Skal USA work together on joint goals on Skal awareness, membership growth and membership benefits.
Skål International--USA and Skål Canada teamed up to conduct a focus group on what non-members know about Skål and what would attract them to join.

Sean Buckland, President, Skål International--Canada from SI Halifax, and Steve Richer, Director, Public Relations and Communications, Skål International--USA from SI Washington, conducted the meeting.

USA Skalleagues from Albany, Atlantic City, Fort Lauderdale, New York, and Washington participated in the discussion.
