Gateway School

Dear Parents

Many exciting events happen at Gateway School every week and this one has been no exception. Skipping mania has really taken hold after the fun skipping workshop organised by Mrs Shaw on Tuesday. The Playground Leaders have all been trained to assist on the playground and they demonstrated some very impressive skipping moves in our assemblies at the end of the week. I am sure seeing the older children demonstrate such skills will be a great inspiration to the younger children.

Usborne Sponsored Reading Event

Gateway children are invited to take part in an Usborne sponsored reading event.  This will run from 3rd to 20th February. This event will also support our World Book Day celebrations and WBD vouchers can be exchanged with Usborne.  Sponsor forms and reading logs are being sent home with the children today. Please read the letter from Usborne which gives further information about this event.

If your child takes part please return your child’s completed Usborne reading log and sponsor form and money by WEDNESDAY 22nd FEBRUARY to their class teacher.  It is important to send the log so that we can work out who has read the most and award a prize. The child who raises the most money will also be rewarded with a prize so the sponsor form/s should be returned.  Children who take part will be able to order Usborne books to the value of 50% of the sponsorship raised. Order forms will go to the children on WEDNESDAY 1st MARCH and need to be completed and returned by WEDNESDAY 8th MARCH.

Books chosen by the children will be ready to take home before the Easter holidays.

Staff and the children will be able to choose Usborne books for their class libraries and some frequently borrowed Library books will be replaced.

I hope this is a successful event which encourages children to experience a love of books.

Mrs Goodchild
