Ashton's Fundraiser
Ashton has been diagnosed with Megaesophagus (ME). While ME is typically a genetic disease in certain breeds, or caused by other underlying medical concerns, Ashton does not fall into either category. It is believed that the injury from the cable is what caused his ME along with a very interesting "bark". ME, in a nutshell, is a narrowing or blockage in the esophagus. This prevents food from reaching the stomach when a dog is in a normal eating position. Most dogs suffering from ME do best eating in an upright position, and typically the food has to come in liquid or slurry form. Ashton is one that cannot have solid food at all. Ashton's stomach had to grow into his food and his food had to make it to his stomach to do so! Ashton deserved a second chance, in his mind, there's nothing wrong with him, and he gets to eat standing up! He thinks that's pretty cool too! This pup has left a huge print on our hearts, he's been worth every minute of care to ensure he has the best, and healthiest life.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to help with his expenses. Ashton will remain on several medications which all aid in digestion, and the ability to keep food down. His diet itself is expensive as well. We have to blend canned food with generic nutrition drinks (such as Ensure) in order to keep his calories up so that he can continue to gain and sustain a healthy weight. He is currently eating a minimum of 4 cans of dog food per day, along with the nutrition drinks that have to be blended in. All of which becomes a heavy expense on the rescue!
Thank you for considering a donation to Ashton! He's worth it!
