Let us unite for the 1 in 68 families affected by ASD in our state

Alabama is one of only five states that does not require meaningful insurance coverage for the treatment of autism. Autism Society of AL and Autism Speaks are working with lawmakers to change that.

This session we have the chance to pass autism insurance reform legislation to make sure that children with autism have coverage, including applied behavior analysis (ABA). We are making progress with advocates and lawmakers across the state, but we need your help.

We must make sure that lawmakers hear the needs of our community now because the legislative session starts on February 7th. So, there is no time to waste! There are 2 ways to send your message about your needs and the needs of the autism community.

Contact your State Senator and your State Representative by entering your US Mail address HERE and call, write or email your Senator and Representative.

Send your email or written note about the need for insurance coverage for autism to insurance@autism-alabama.org or ASA 4217 Dolly Ridge Road, Birmingham, AL 35243.  ASA will forward to your legislator.  Please include your US Mail address in your email or letter.

Sample letter/email to Legislator or information to include in a phone call to your legislator:

Dear Senator (Senator's name here)_ or Representative (Representative's name here)__

Please help my family.  My family member has autism and my health insurance coverage does not cover autism therapy including ABA therapy.  Please help me in anyway to receive coverage for my loved one's therapy for autism.  (Please add your story here or specifics about your child or loved one living with autism.)

Please include your name, email address, US Mail address and phone number.
