Pauly receives NAJA Scholarship

Senior fellow, Pauly Denetclaw, received a scholarship from the Native American Journalist Association to continue her education and further her skills as a journalist.

Luna Co-producing Upcoming Documentary - “Hermanas en Ruedas”

Long-term Generation Justice member Luna Olavarria Gallegos just returned from Cuba while co-producing a documentary called “Hermanas en Ruedas”. The film follows the stories of young women in the underground skate culture in Havana, Cuba. The members of Hermanas en Ruedas seek to find their paths in a subculture that is not only male-dominated but completely underground. Way to go, Luna! The film is set to release in the Winter of 2017 in Havana, Cuba. Watch the trailer here.

Nicole Accepted as a Semi-Finalist for the Fulbright Program

Generation Justice member Nicole Baty has been accepted as a semi-finalist for the prestigious Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Program. The program places grantees in schools overseas to supplement local English language instruction in the classrooms.

Long-term Generation Justice member Jonquilyn Hill recently accepted a radio producer position for “1A”, a WAMU 88.5 FM public affairs program in Washington D.C. also distributed by NPR.  “1A”  features engaging conversations, perspectives, and insights on major issues unfolding in America and around the world.

Jason Starting as Assistant Editor at WTOP 103.5FM

2013 Fellow Jason Fuller accepted the newsroom assistant editor and operations assistant for WTOP 103.5 FM, a renown radio station covering the latest news, traffic, and weather forecasts in the Washington, D.C. region.

How did you spend Inauguration evening? We Honored 4 of Our Giants

This month Generation Justice dedicated a night to showcasing some of our community giants--Roberto Chene, Mary Dudley, Arturo Sandoval, Judge John Romero--in four multimedia profiles produced by the GJ Journalism Fellows Pauly Denetclaw, Christina Rodriguez, Kateri Zuni, and Tamara Colaque. Thank you to the WK Kellogg Foundation and McCune foundation for funding this event.

Waking Up Our Community

GJ was invited to provide a workshop on digital security (Electronically Woke” for the UNM Center for Community Engagement fifth annual symposium.

Generation Justice (GJ) Director Roberta Rael and GJ fellow Christina Rodriguez  presented and introduced participants to Signal, a free mobile app which encrypts your text messages and helps protect you from digital surveillance.

Women’s Rights are Human Rights

Albuquerque was one of the several cities nationwide to participate in the historic Women’s March on Washington. Generation Justice youth producers and staff marched in solidarity with millions of others across the nation in support of women’s rights. One of our youth producers, Jonathon Alonzo, live streamed the march and rally.

The video has over 5,000 views, 102 likes and was shared 93 times.
