WHAT'S UP

The last couple of weeks have creatively been exactly what I enjoy most... finishing up a quilt top, trying something new, dabbling with improv, and combining scraps with simple patchwork (shown). The variety of that kind of sewing really feeds me, and project-hopping is invigorating rather than exhausting.

January 31 marked six years of blogging at A Quilter's Table, which I find incredible and gratifying. I started blogging as a way to get more involved in the online quilting community, and I guess it worked! Thanks for following along through The Scrap Basket here. It means alot.

ROUND-UP

The traditional Delectable Mountains pattern has been around for a long time, supposedly named for a reference from The Pilgrim's Progress authored by John Bunyan in 1688(!).

One of the first Delectable Mountains quilts I fell in love with was made by my guild-mate Carrie for our Binary Challenge. I love that you can still recognize the pattern in Carrie's very modern design.

Wendy/Wendy World has made a couple of Delectable Mountains quilts, both with her bold use of color. [wens_was_here]

Using a modified Delectable Mountains pattern, Elise Lea/Lovelea Designs says her Aztec Mountain quilt blocks used "half rectangles that are sewn together and cut into smaller strips" making the piecing quicker than traditional blocks. The contrasting centers add a lot of interest, don't you agree? [loveleadesigns]

The use of mixed neutrals gives Erin/quilt by starlight's Solar Eclipse a delightful modern, her own take on the quilt pattern by Elizabeth Hartman.

What a happy surprise to find The Smitten Kitchen series on Food Network! Smitten Kitchen with Deb Perelman is one of my very favorite food blogs. (You haven't yet tried her Apple Cider Caramels? DO!)

P.S. Couldn't resist sharing Sew Me Something Good's Hearts All Around post, full of darling heart projects, as well as my own Hearts pin board. This is prime season, since it's February after all.
