Dear Church Family,

Thank you so much for all the cards, phone calls, texts and prayers after Richard's father's recent passing. The flowers at his funeral were like receiving a hug from the church. Most of all thank you for the love and acceptance you showered on Dad during his last years spent with us. You made a tremendous difference in his life.

Gratefully,
Richard & Leslie Payne

Deacon Prayer Emphasis
Richard Payne, February Deacon of the Month

One of my burdens in my Christian life is the feeling I’m not doing enough to spread the good news of salvation. Do I keep other good news from my family, friends and acquaintances? No. Do I let obstacles become excuses? Probably. Our culture tends to tell us to keep controversial subjects to ourselves. Discussing politics and religion are taboo in polite society.
Yet if we truly believe there is nothing comparable in this world to the surety of everlasting life with God and angels, how can we be silent?

There are some clues as to how to make the process of witnessing easier.

First is to realize I’m not responsible for the actual saving of people’s souls. The Holy Spirit has the responsibility to convict and convert.
My responsibility is to plant seeds (thoughts) and to provide water
(Bible references) and fertilizer (examples). The Holy Spirit is the one to actually make the “plant” grow.

Second is to realize the first time of witnessing is always the hardest.
Yet with repetition any task becomes easier. Musicians repeat a passage
until it flows without thinking. But you don’t become a musician
if you want to never make a mistake.

Third is to realize the advancement of God’s Kingdom on earth would not be possible if we all stay in our comfort zones. Doing “church” is not
the Great commission. Our commission given by Jesus is to spread
the Word to all the people of the world.

Fourth is to accept our possible imperfections in knowledge or tact,
yet understand the necessity to help hurting people – people who
don’t want to believe in a concept called eternity.

So what to do? Join me in praying to see and act on opportunities to share what Jesus has done in our lives. Develop relationships with non-Christians so you can talk at a deeper level than weather and other topics where you really have no influence or control. Offer to pray with or for others.

If you want to be inspired, try interacting with Rightnowmedia.org on the topic of evangelism. You will find many talks and lessons on the subject to help you make you a better prepared witness to the world.
