WHAT: 3rd on Third: Mardi Gras Black History
WHERE: Bayview Opera House Ruth Williams Memorial Theater
WHEN: February 17th 5:30-7:30pm
NOTES/CONTACT: Come and enjoy a fun, free Mardi Gras celebration and the commemoration of Black History at the Bayview Opera House Ruth Williams Memorial Theatre. We will be featuring poetry, floats, live music, food and circus acts. We are happy to re-establish the Bayview Underground Pop-Up Market, which will be happening every third Friday of the month at the Bayview Opera House Ruth Williams Memorial Theatre. The Market highlights some of Bayview's most delicious local vendors of food, drink and arts and crafts organized by Andrea Baker Consulting, our long-time partner. Other attractions include arts activities, and live performances by MJ's Brass Boppers and the Prescott Theatre Circus! RSVP here

Featuring guest speaker Dr. Channa Cook-Harvey and legendary jazz guitarist Calvin Keys. WHAT: Author Ben Tucker will read from his memoir A Good Run

NOTES: To celebrate Black History Month, the Bayview/Linda Brooks-Burton Branch Library will be hosting Mr. Ben Tucker for a special program on February 21, 2017.  He will read from his memoir, A Good Run, and engage the students in a discussion and Q & A.  A Good Run is a coming-of-age story that spans the post-World War II era to the days of the Civil Rights Movement. As a student at San Jose State in the early 1960s, he was a world-class middle distance runner. Mr. Tucker worked as an administrator for the University of California at Berkeley and the UC Office of the President for 25 years. He also lived in the Bayview.  We hope you can join us for this special program!
