Hi <<First Name>>

1) Australian Tallow Producers Update
10 Feb 2017 The following update was sent from Leighton Black.

As previously advised, we remain committed to the residents and the greater community in regards to completing works agreed with EPA to upgrade the ATP site.

Works that have been undertaken include:
  • The central processing building has a new roof installed and point source ducting to Biofilter.
  • Commissioning of a fully integrated and automated process line is installed and due for completion late Feb.
  • Additional point source ducting and humidifiers have been installed on Biofilters 1 and 2 to improve efficiency.
  • An Australian first waste heat evaporator to treat process water has been installed and will be commissioned by late Feb.

2) Brooklyn company fined again over odour offences

8 Feb 2017
Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has fined a Brooklyn meat processing company $7,773 for allowing offensive odours, described as smelling like urine and manure, to leave its site and impact the local community.

Despite fining JBS Australia for allowing offensive odours to leave its site in April 2016, EPA continued to receive several community reports in August last year that a strong offensive odour was impacting on Yarraville residents. Read more

3) EPA and VicRoads to target waste transporters

9 Feb 2017 Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) and VicRoads have reminded waste transporters to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and comply with waste transport laws, as the regulators begin joint roadside operations across the state.

Commencing this week, the joint operations follow the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding which will see VicRoads officers gather intelligence on behalf of EPA during inspections of vehicles transporting hazardous waste known as prescribed industrial waste (PIW).  Read more

4) BCRG Community action on Monitoring
At the BCRG forum in November 2016 the following action was recorded.

161116_2: Community members to approach EPA Victoria to discuss other options for dust monitoring closer to the industrial precinct.

The BCRG Open House on March 8 offers an excellent opportunity to catch up with the EPA Victoria staff to discuss this.

5) Next BCRG forum, March 8 - change to format and time
The next BCRG meeting will be held in ‘open house’ format at the earlier time. Drop in any time between 4pm - 7pm on 8 March at the Brooklyn Community Hall in Cypress Avenue.

We hope to attract a broader range of community attendees, who will be able to speak one-on-one with representatives from EPA, state government, Councils, and industry about their efforts to improve Brooklyn’s air quality.

There will also be a BCRG booth at the event – we would love you to stop by and tell us what you think about our normal BCRG format, and how it might be improved in the future.

All are welcome; please publicise this opportunity broadly within your networks….. and please let us know if your group or organisation would like to run a booth (stand) on the day.
