Hi everyone,

huge news! I finally decided it's time to meet. This community now exists for almost one year in the digital space - and we're more than 900 people from Canada to New Zealand!

So let's take it a step further and meet in person! Hereby I officially announce our very first Digital Journalism Rocks meetup at the gorgeous SXSW festival!

Digital Journalism Rocks Lunch @ SXSW
Sunday, March 12, 1pm - 3.30pm | Austin, Texas

I absolutely love the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival! It takes place every year in March in Austin, Texas, and is one of the coolest conferences in digital media and tech. So I chose this gorgeous event to host the first official Digital Journalism Rocks Meetup.
So all of you who are heading to SXSW this year: Join us for a lunch in the German Haus on Sunday, March 12! Thanks to Invest in Bavaria, lunch and drinks will be for free. \o/
But: A cool meetup needs cool attendees! So even if you're not coming to Austin - please help me and spread the word to all of your colleagues and friends! From this second on you can RSVP here - space is limited so don't hesitate to put you on the list.

I can't wait to finally see you all!

Rock on & see you in Austin!
Lina

Is LinkedIn the next big thing?
  • In the last two weeks we discussed one of our all time favourite topics: Who will win - Instagram Stories or Snapchat? A potential decrease of Snapchat views was the basis of the debate, but we still don’t know, if it was because of the loss of autoplay or really because of Instagram’s strength. Well, we did not decide, but maybe you can share your opinion?
  • Our second discussion was about the potential of LinkedIn - thanks again to Henrik Ståhl for starting it. I would like to know: How do you use LinkedIn personally and for your company? Is it more important than Facebook or Twitter?

Do you know how iOS selects it's Spotlight Suggestions?

  • What’s the mechanism behind iOS’ Spotlight Suggestions, @javier_vazquez asks. It does neither seem to contain SEO-optimized nor very breaking or even personalized (at least in Switzerland) news. If you have a clue, please share ...

Welcome to the "Check your Facts"-Podcast, the first project that wouldn't have started without DJR!

+++ BREAKING NEWS +++ Two of us, Henrik Stahl from Stockholm and David Tvrdon from Bratislava, are starting a weekly podcast! This is huge, because the podcast would not exist without our Digital Journalism Rocks community. Mostly because the two would not have met, supposably.

  • So, please, give the „Check Your Facts“ podcast a very warm welcome by subscribing via iTunes, visiting the website, following the Twitter account, subscribing to the newsletter and, of course, listining to the show.
  • The podcast is supposed to be „about journalism, by journalists, for everyone.“ The two want to „strive for clarity in a world rattled by Brexits and Trumps“ and „dig into the emotions tied to the significant moments.“ Or, as David says in the teaser episode: “It’s gonna be a hell of a journey.”
  • The first episode of the podcast will also feature a guest you are all familiar with: Lina Timm – our „commander-in-chief“.

"Steady" wants to be the platform where you finally make money as a journalist
  • @sebastianesser introduced Steady, a DNI funded platform which is“Patreon for journalists, bloggers, podcasters and other content creators.” Give them your feedback!
  • At @excinit highlighted that ad blocking has migrated to mobile (because making money off of content isn’t quite challenging enough), but surprisingly, with the majority in Asia, rather than Europe or North America.
