It feels like spring already, yet it’s only February. The forecast for the month trends warmer than usual this time of the year so we may as well start thinking about those warm weather fashions and begin getting ready. For many of us our New Years resolutions have already fallen by the wayside, so let’s renew our goals this month and make it a healthier Spring. Drop in and let us help you select some new combinations of oils and vinegars to make your salads more interesting and dinnertime less boring. Keep in mind that the balsamic vinegars are very low in calories and have no added sugars. Oils have healthy calories and they are full of the healthy fats our bodies and brains need to function properly. We can liven up your meals in a healthy and tasty way!

That segues right into our upcoming March cooking classes. Chef Alan will be hosting a Hearty Italian Soup class and a Chicken Pomodoro class while Chef “M” has green on her mind with a St. Patrick’s Traditional Stew. Chef Megan will elaborate on her Healthy Eating 101 with a Cedar Plank Salmon with a sesame ginger glaze. Since the weather is getting warmer we have opted to add a couple of outdoor seating areas for you to enjoy with a glass of wine and perhaps a little bread and bread dipping. Just outside our front doors where we currently have our bench seating, we will be adding two outdoor tables and chairs with umbrellas to keep that hot summer sun off. It will be a lovely way to relax for a bit and enjoy the park and fountain and a great opportunity to relax and catch up with friends and do a bit of people watching. We hope you will come and hang out with us!

We are excited to introduce another new addition to our salt section from Chef Kevin Gillespie, American Chef, author and former Top Chef contestant. Chef Kevin is very well known in the Atlanta area for his fabulous fare, specifically his restaurant “Gunshow” that offers a bold new take on traditional dining. It was voted one of Esquire’s Best New Restaurants in America! Right here in Atlanta! He has collaborated with Beautiful Briny, which many of you are familiar with as we carry many of their salts in our SALT section, and now we will be adding a special finishing salt named Gunpowder. 

Finishing touches are critical, particularly in the restaurant business. Kevin Gillespie and Gunshow Executive Chef Joey Ward had this in mind when they created Gunpowder Finishing Salt. The blend includes Hawaiian volcanic salt with chipotle, black pepper, garlic, onion, sumac, and more. The tangy spice mix has a mineral clean finish with smoky, residual heat. It goes especially well with grilled meats, fried foods, barbecue, or any foods lacking deliciousness.

Friday Night Live Lineup 

Woodstock’s Friday Night Live lineups have been added to the Downtown Woodstock Facebook. In addition to the usual lineup there have been some new additions.

Main Street Woodstock is excited to announce the complete 2017 schedule for the Friday Night Live Series. Friday Night Live has proved to be a wildly popular event as each month the crowds grow larger and larger. Spend the first Friday of every month in Downtown Woodstock and enjoy the many restaurants and stores that the area has to offer as the Downtown Merchants stay open late, 6pm-9pm.

March 3rd: Masquerade Ball – The fun and mystery of a masquerade kicks off the 2017 Friday Night Live series.
April 7th: Zombie Prom – Everyone loves the fun of prom, even zombies! Join us for this fun and spooky time in Downtown Woodstock.
May 5th: Western Night – The fun of the Old West will be in full effect on this night. It will be a great night for cowboys and cowgirls!
June 2nd: Caribbean Night – Enjoy Caribbean fun in Downtown Woodstock as we kick off summer.
July 7th: Downtown Dance Party – Put on our dancing shoes and head downtown for a dance party! It will be a night to remember!
August 4th: Super Hero Night – Time to celebrate all things super hero related in Downtown Woodstock. Be it Superman, Batman, or the Avengers. This night is guaranteed to be super fun!
September 1st: Downtown Tailgate – Celebrate the start of football season at this downtown-wide tailgate party!
October 6th: Oktoberfest – Celebrate Oktoberfest in Downtown Woodstock! Grab a brew with your crew and have a blast too.
November 3rd: Night of Thanks – Have a fun night in Downtown Woodstock and give back at the same time. We will be partnering with local nonprofits to spotlight their efforts at this Friday Night Live.
December 1st: Christmas in Downtown – The spirit of Christmas can be found downtown at Christmas on Main. It’s the perfect chance to shop for gifts and have some fun at the same time. Santa has already RSVP’d to attend!
For all of you looking forward to the first spring concert at the Amphitheater it’s scheduled for Saturday May 12 at 7:30.  The Charlie Daniels Band will be the main event.  Keep your eyes on our website for information about our “Make it & Take it” series in conjunction with the concert schedule. This will provide you a chance to make a gourmet sandwich and sides for your dining enjoyment at the concert. Parking will be included in the price of the class. More details to come.

Succulent Strawberry Delight

INGREDIENTS
4 cups fresh strawberries, stemmed and sliced
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons sugar, if desired
3 tablespoons Leaning Ladder Traditional balsamic
1 quart ice cream of gelato
6 fresh mint sprigs to garnish

METHOD
In a large bowl, combine all ingredients except ice cream and gently stir until strawberries are coated. Cover and refrigerate about 45 minutes.
TO SERVE
Gently stir the strawberry mixture. In individual serving bowls, place a scoop of ice cream and large serving spoonful of strawberries. Garnish with fresh mint sprigs and serve immediately.
