Watch and share video - A Love Song

#ShowTheLove is an annual celebration by The Climate Coalition of all that we love but could lose to climate change, and the progress being made towards a clean and secure future. This year the coalition have released a love song like you’ve never heard before. Please watch the wonderful video and share.
The powerful short film by Ridley Scott Associates features a specially written poem by award winning writer Anthony Anaxagorou and is brought to life by Charles Dance, Miranda Richardson, David Gyasi and Jason Isaacs. It has a specially produced soundtrack by Elbow, including choral arrangement by Phil Mitchell and vocals from the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir. Please watch and share.

Plant pinwheels in Exeter on 14 February

Last year, 10:10 carpeted Parliament Square in pinwheels to show our government how many people love wind power. This year it is being repeated across the country on Valentine’s Day!
The Renewables Team at Stephens Scown are recreating the magic in Exeter on Tuesday, 14th February by planting whirly windmills (see guide) in Southernhay in Exeter in the shape of a heart. They invite others to join in by meeting at Curzon House, Southernhay West from 12.30.

Planning meeting for tree-planting

The first planning meeting for our tree-planting project will be 7:30pm on Tuesday, 21 February at Wiveliscombe House in The Square (opposite the Co-op). All interested are welcome.
We plan to apply for free saplings from the Woodland Trust, which should be available for planting in November. Before then, we will need to confirm planting sites and have some in mind already, but would welcome further suggestions. We will also need to discuss involving others, choosing tree types and much else besides, possibly including wider work to promote the benefits of trees and planting more.

Forthcoming events

Please note the following dates for future Wivey Action on Climate events:

Rebecca Pow MP

We have still not had a reply from our MP on climate change, but are persisting. We have asked to meet her at a surgery to discuss the energy efficiency of new housing and support for renewable power, but have been told that currently no appointments are available. We have also asked that she consider signing a parliamentary motion about new business rates for solar PV installations, which has been supported by another Somerset Tory MP. We hope we can soon report back more positively.

Pasture Power Conference - 17 March

Forum 21 are holding a one day conference to demonstrate the benefits of pasture fed food production on 17 March at The Beach Hotel, Minehead. Speakers include practising farmers, land managers and conservationists.
