                    How's Your Weight Loss Going?
January 1st saw many of you going on diets, joining gyms to lose weight and look a better you for the summer hols or just to get healthy.
Well what if you're finding it really tough and not really shedding the kilos as much as you'd like.
Your Gut Health Just Might Be Your Problem.

Pre-Biotics,  Pro- Biotics,  Prebiotin,  Firmicutes,  Bacteroides.
                               Cultured Foods,   Fermented Foods.

Unless you understand these terms all your work just might be in vain.

image of prebiotics and probiotics with dr Frank Jackson.
This 80/20 rule observed by many for weight loss cant work as well if your                         Gut is programmed to retain sugars and fats.

Trillions of bacteria live in the human gut.
        They account for
ten times more cells than in the human body.

Obesity especially in children, the media blames a high sugar, high fat diet and laziness. Yet we can have identical twins with one being skinny eating what they want and the other always struggling with weight.
Studies find that an overweight person's Gut is high in Firmicutes  yet a slim person's is high in Bacteroids. So Probiotics fed by Prebiotics in turn fed by Cultured Foods and Fermented Foods can rectify this Gut imbalance, naturally eliminating the desire for sugars, high fats and delivering a naturally slimming body.

This VIDEO explains the difference between Pre & Probiotics and this VIDEO explains in more detail. This VIDEO explains so much of how your Gut works with the rest of your Intestines and this VIDEO explains fermentation of food perfectly.

President Trump & Team Officially Withdraw From TPP

In yet another bold move in their initial days in office, U.S. President Donald Trump and team have announced their withdrawal from the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade agreement.
While news of Trump withdrawing from TPP worried corporations seeking to make huge profits from 'Private Corporate Trading Deals' the inevitable damage to Ireland's enviable record in food traceability and its dilution from lesser standard produce from the US created much protest here. Darina Allen's protest along with other pillars in the Irish food industry can now breathe a sigh of relief.
However Trump dissolves the EPA environmental body and to Pull Out Of Paris agreement too.

It's not just Mexicans that Trump wants to keep out of the US.
Avocados too are on his list but with the amount of failed crops in the US from severe weather and water shortages and contamination from Fracking, Trump may well have to abandon this ban also.

Excess Food for Ireland's Poor, gives Supermarkets                                   Free PR and Labour.

Knowing that excess to requirement food is finding its way to those who need it most, that being Ireland's Homeless and Poor and those who are plain Hungry makes us all very happy.
However supermarkets who once paid refuse collectors to take away commercial wheelie bins full of food waste, now enjoy much lower costs with the emergence of Low Cost Food Banks redirecting this food for charities to use, while basking in Free PR and Free Labour.
Food Banks / Online Food Brokers such as Ireland's Food Cloud and Bia along with movements in the UK such as Utilise Loughborough where one pays what they feel for a meal are redirecting Excess Food Supplies to the hungry. It's been a reluctant journey worldwide, putting Food Waste centrestage in restaurants too.

Coasts Of Ireland Are Plentiful With Nutrient Rich Seaweed.
Don't be so quick to turn your nose up at the idea of eating seaweed as you're already eating it in so many daily products. RTE's  ECO Eye programme HERE explains all and it's essential coastal defence properties, now under threat from commercial interests.

Iodine is not present in many foods but has a significant impact on both brain and thyroid function. Kelp and other seaweeds of a brownish hue (as opposed to green) are said to contain the most iodine.
The Guy's at the Organic Online Supermarket provide you with all the info and 10% off Seaweed Product's HERE.
Households contribute 26% of the 1.1m tonnes of                              food waste in Ireland.
Equates to circa €700 per household spent and thrown out on uneaten food.
Government's failure to introduce Pay x Weight means much of this food waste ends up in the Black bin for incineration and not in the Brown bin for composting. Read full article HERE.

Government 'tried to bury' its own alarming report on climate                                change and Food Security.

image of cars and houses flooded in the Uk courtesy of Getty images.
Dr Doug Parr, chief scientist at Greenpeace UK, said the report made clear that climate change was “one of the biggest security threats” faced by the UK and that urgent action was required. Especially on Food Security.
Ireland has it's own worries on Food Security too.
Ross McCann is currently studying Environmental Science and Policy in UCD warned on Feb 7th of Fertiliser depletion and RTE Six one news reports on the same topic on Feb 8th.
With global reserves diminishing, large exporters will most likely push up prices of Phosphorus which our agriculture system heavily relies on. This in turn will lead to higher cost of fertilisers and thus higher food prices. See Ross's Blog HERE.

                                         You can change this.
Simply by choosing to use Your Brown Bin. Forget all the politics and the we won't pay brigade. Once you segregate your food waste from your household waste you are contributing to your foods security.
The more food waste that can be composted the less dependent Ireland becomes on Imported Chemical Fertilisers. See how Thorntons Composting facility in Co Meath ensures local farmers get your food waste as compost. Your next home grown chemical free meal depends on your actions.
