HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
Our complex hearts - by sophomore Agathe V.

Dear d.tech families,

My primary goal this week is to make sure that you read the entire download! There is a lot of information that is important for our parent community in this issue, so please scroll to the bottom. : )

First, I want to call your attention to the process for becoming the parent representative on our board. There is a link below to submit a candidate’s statement if you are interested in applying. Please note that this is a full board member position. The parent selected will have full voting rights and full board responsibilities. This is different from a parent liaison-type position, where the primary expectation would have been to convey information to and from the parent community to the board members. The parent representative position is a one-year term, with a maximum of two consecutive terms. We encourage all interested parents to apply.

This week is also Re-enrollment Week. If you have not received an email from the school about re-enrollment, please email Julie Abraham.  We would really appreciate it if you would meet the courtesy deadline of February 20, as that will help families and d.tech plan for the upcoming lottery on March 2 and fall enrollment. Thank you to everyone who has already completed that process.

Next year is slated to be our best year yet with the final move into our permanent home on the Oracle campus. We have deeply valued your role in shaping our community, and hope that you are as excited as we are about the coming year, and our first graduating class of seniors. We look forward to continuing to redesign high school together as we enroll all four years for the first time.

Lastly, I will share the results of the location survey in next week’s Download, and then cover our options in more detail at the February 27 Town Hall.

Ken

Emergency Drills Notice

d.tech will be conducting emergency drills for the students for 30 minutes during regular school hours on February 23, March 16 and April 20. The drills train students in procedures for an earthquake, lock-down and fire.

Re-enrollment - Courtesy Deadline February 20!

Your family should have received an email yesterday inviting your family to log on to RegOnline, review your household information, update emergency contacts and re-reenroll. If you have not received that email please check your spam folder. Re-enrolling by the courtesy deadline of Monday, February 20 would be deeply appreciated by the office. The final deadline is February 28, after which open spots will be offered to prospective students in the March 2 lottery. If you have questions, or need help, please contact Julie Abraham.

Important Message for Families who enrolled in 2014 and 2015

If you have difficulty re-enrolling, please view this document from School Pathways. There was an alteration in their enrollment system prior to last year which is affecting some families: this is the fix.

No School President's Day

We hope your family enjoys the long weekend! The next issue of the Download will be Wednesday Feb. 22 because of  the Monday holiday.

Athletics - Congratulations!

Girls Varsity Soccer saw multiple Dragons score goals, ending in an 8-2 lead against East Palo Alto. Boys Varsity Soccer kept Tahoma at Bay with a 2 - 2 tie, and - in a great final showdown - d.tech Dragons swooped down on Summit Shasta - a 16-1 team - to win with a 3 point lead. It was a great wrap-up for Winter Athletics. Go Dragons!

Apply for 2017-2018 Parent Board Representative

If you are intrigued by how d.tech is governed, and are willing to bring your experience and commitment to the task for the coming year,  please consider applying to be the next Design Tech Parent Board Member. Jaime Dal Porto will be stepping down after two terms, which means the process to fill this position is beginning. Getting started on your candidacy is relatively simple: before the Feb. 24 deadline, please complete your candidate's statement.

Click here for a full description of the duties and process.

If more than two submissions are received, they will be shared with d.tech parents to review via a link in this newsletter on March 7. A parent vote will be held between March 7 -14 to identify the two finalists. They will then speak at the April 19 Board Meeting, and the Board decision will be published in the May 2 issue of the Download, and the new representative will be introduced at the May 22 Town Hall.
