GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM GETS FIRST CIF WIN IN 20 YEARS!

Your Glendale Nitros travelled to Whittier on Thursday, February 16th for a first-round CIF Southern Section Division II-A game.  The Nitros, who were trailing at half-time by 9 points, turned up the heat to tie the game at the end of the third quarter 39-39.  The Nitro Defense made impressive moves in the 4th quarter, stifling Whittier and holding them to just seven 4th quarter points, while the Nitro offense kicked into gear, scoring 17 points to win the game 56-46!

The next CIF play-off game is THIS SATURDAY at GHS at 7 pm in the gym.  The 7th-ranked Lady Nitros take on 8th-ranked Notre Dame. General admission to the game is $10.  High School students and children are $5.  No ASB or Faculty discounts.  Please come out and support our Girls Basketball squad!

American University, located in Washington, D.C., is one of the best universities in the nation for Political Science, Law and International Studies.  As a liberal arts college, however, it also has strong programs in many other areas including Business, Journalism, Film, Psychology, Biology, Pre-med, Neuroscience, and Theatre.

4/5 Oregon State University - Justin Strohmeyer, Regional Admissions Advisor will be in the College & Career room from 12:27 - 1:02.

Oregon State is the top research university in Oregon.  Located in Corvallis, one of the safest, smartest, greenest small cities in the nation, OSU has strong programs in engineering/computer science, animal science/vet med, agriculture, forestry, marine sciences, health sciences, and business, just to name a few! 

4/11 Emerson College - Amy Mitchell, Associate Director- Admissions LA Campus will be here from 10:00 - 10:30.

Emerson College is an all Arts and Communications school with strong programs in Theater, Journalism, Film, Creative Writing, Comedy & Communications.  Emerson's main campus is in Boston, but they also have a campus in Los Angeles!  Film, Drama and Journalism students are strongly encouraged to stop by and meet Ms. Mitchell on April 11th at 10 am!

4/12 Hawai'i Pacific University - Michael Taylor, Associate Director of Admissions will be here from 12:27 - 1:02

Hawai'i Pacific University is a private university known for its diverse student body who represent nearly 80 countries. The offers a variety of different programs including Business, Nursing, Psychology, Pre-Med, Marine Biology, Nursing and Environmental Science, none of which are impacted. University of Michigan is a highly regarded public research university made up of 19 schools and colleges.  They offer many programs including architecture, dentistry, education, engineering, kinesiology, medicine, law and more. 

5/18 Harvey Mudd College  - Misha Kabashima, Assistant Director of Admissions will be here from 12:27 - 1:02

Harvey Mudd College is a private residential liberal arts college of science, engineering, and mathematics located in Claremont, California.  They have strong programs in biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, and engineering (and some combinations of those majors).  Any advanced students interested in these should stop by and talk to Ms. Kabashima.  AP Calc and AP Physics students, don't miss this opportunity!

GLENDALE HIGH SCHOOL PTSA

The Nominating Committee for the Glendale High School PTSA has met and is proposing the following slate of candidates for the PTSA's Executive Board for the 2017-2018 school year. 

This slate will be voted on at our Founder's Day Association meeting on Monday, March 13th at 6 pm in the GHS library. All members of the Glendale High community are welcome to attend.

First District PTA Commemorative Scholarship

Available Scholarships: Commemorative scholarships awarded in the amount of $750 to graduating high senior students who have achievements, service and involvement in the following areas:  Community Service, Leadership, School Related Activities, Extra Curricular Activities, Work Experience, Extenuating Circumstances
 
First District PTA encourages applications reflective of students who have: a minimum of 2.0 GPA; worked diligently and to the best of their academic abilities; displayed good citizenship in a positive manner; been involved in school or community activities; and held an after-school, part-time or summer job and/or managed extra home responsibilities.
 
Applicants must be:
1. A 2017 graduating high school senior
2. A California resident
3. A member of the high school PTA/PTSA in good standing
4. Planning to attend college, university, trade or tech school in the fall of 2017
 
Following items must be submitted with the application:
1.   A completed application form
2.  A copy of the current PTA/PTSA membership card on an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper, with student signature
3. A typed essay/personal statement of 500 words or less describing your career plans, goals and objectives, any community service, leadership involvement, school-related activities, extra-curricular activities, work experience or extenuating responsibilities that you feel would be valuable for the selection committee to know
4. A letter of recommendation
5. School transcript

Form Submission:  All applications must be turned in directly to High School Office or Counseling Office by Wednesday, March 1.
 
Follow up:  Applicants will be notified by Glendale Council PTA if selected by First District

THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE VERDUGOS 

The Community Foundation’s scholarships are created by individuals and organizations to assist students who are pursuing a higher education.

Here are a few things you should know about our scholarships:

  • Scholarship monies are charitable grants which you do not need to pay back.
  • Each scholarship has a specific eligibility criteria that is defined by the donor when the fund is created — browse to see which awards you’re eligible for by reading the scholarship cover sheets.
  • Awards are based on individual parameters and the decision of the Scholarship Committee is final.

The scholarship application deadline for 2017 is:

  • March 2, 2017
  • Letters of Recommendation, Official Academic Transcripts & FAFSA Student Aid Reports (SAR) must all be submitted by the deadline
