A message from the Board Chairman

February, 2017

By Jeff Walla, Board Chair

Our newsletter this month is packed with really good news for The First Tee of New Hampshire with new board members, the addition of a wonderful new staff member and a new program location in Concord.  All of this is possible through the hard work and dedication of our current board of directors and staff exercising two of The First Tee Nine Core Values, Confidence and Perseverance.  All of us are confident in the programs we deliver, the positive and lifelong impact of these programs on our young participants and our ability to carry out our mission.  While our efforts may not come to fruition as quickly as we might like we persevere as is the case with our new program location in Concord.  This has been a three year process and a huge thank you to Chris Sargent, Program Director and Jim Blalock, Lead Coach for their persistence.  We are laying great groundwork in this off season to make 2017 our best yet!

PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENTS

Speedway Children’s Charities

The New Hampshire Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities held its 8th Annual Grant Distribution Ceremony in December at the Palace Theater in Manchester where The First Tee of New Hampshire Board Member, Scott Harding, accepted a check for a $1,000 grant.  The money for the grant came from a number of different fundraising events that the Speedway holds each year including the “One for the Kids” Golf Tournament, Lobster Bake and NASCAR weekends.   The total amount awarded for 2016 was $267,000 for local non-profits that provide youth development and support programs.

5th Annual TFTNH Celtics Night

Our 5th Annual TFTNH Celtics Night was another huge success! Thank you to all of the families who came out for a fun night, we are now 5 for 5 with Celtics wins, and kept our "Get on the Jumbotron" streak alive for the 5th straight year as well. Fun times all around!

Our Board is Growing
5 join board

We’re excited to have five new board members join The First Tee of New Hampshire over the past five months.  Each of these individuals bring with them a passion for youth, golf and service to their communities.  I’d like to introduce you to each new member.

Buddy Webb is the Managing Director of Lake Street Advisors, LLC located in Portsmouth.  Buddy and his wife Jen, an educator, observed one of our programs over the summer and were impressed with the program content and delivery by Coach Jim.  Buddy brings his skills in strategic thinking and business processes to The First Tee of New Hampshire.

Jared Lemos is the co-founder and Managing Partner of Fishnet Media in Portsmouth.  Jared is an avid golfer and has a young son who will be starting our program soon.  Jared brings his skills media and public relations to our organization.

Rajan Vora is first and foremost a parent of a program participant, Shivani Vora.  One of our strategic goals this year was to have 25% representation on our board by parents of our participants.  Rajan raised his hand immediately as the first new parent to join our board after this goal was announced.  Rajan is a passionate golfer and a parent who has seen the benefit of our unique program and the impact on his daughter.  Rajan is a technologist currently working at the naval shipyard in Portsmouth and lives in Dover.

Geoff Martin is the President of Cedar Mill Group based in Webster near Concord.  Geoff is an avid golfer and youth development having been involved with the Boys & Girls Club and Speedway Children’s Charity to name a few.  Geoff will be instrumental to us broadening our reach to the greater Concord community in the coming years.

Steve Ramos another parent of a program participant at Atkinson, hails from Plaistow and is the Chief, Workforce Development for Hanscom Airforce Base in Massachusetts.  Steve has a passion for helping our organization gain ground in the area of diversity.

Our board is fortunate to have these talented individuals join us to further our mission throughout the state.
