For the month of March 2017, the Opioid Task Force Treatment & Recovery and Healthcare Solutions Committees will have a combined meeting:

Brain Based Yoga Therapy for Chronic Pain

The YMCA in Greenfield is offering a new brain based yoga program designed to help those with chronic pain. 

When? Tuesdays, 12:00 - 1:30 pm
(March 7th - April 25th)
Where? The YMCA in Greenfield

This class will teach participants ways to access and overcome unconscious brain patterns through consistent practice over time.

Trauma-Informed Treatment for Substance Use Disorders

This introductory day-long training will describe the relationship between substance use disorder and trauma:
  • Learn about principles and practices of trauma-informed treatment 
  • Learn about strategies that will improve the effectiveness of treatment 
  • Discuss secondary trauma and self-care
When? Wednesday, April 19, from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Workshops for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

The Commission on the Status of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren presents a three-hour workshop for grandparents and kinship caregivers throughout the Commonwealth. Special guests will present at each workshop on topics important to grandparents raising grandchildren. Workshops will include an information panel with representatives from DCF, DTA, MassHealth, Elder Services, and more. In the Spotlight: Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a treatment method that motivates individuals to strengthen their commitment to achieving goals and making positive life change. MI can be helpful for a range of health conditions, including mental health disorders, substance use disorders, and chronic conditions. 

Creating change through MI involves four key-elements:
  1. Partnership 
  2. Acceptance
  3. Compassion
  4. Evocation

"Empowering parents to nurture children and build stronger families."
 
Parents Helping Parents of Massachusetts (PHP) offers parent support groups and a Parental Stress Line that caregivers can call for any issue related to parenting. The Parental Stress Line is free, confidential, and open 24/7: 1-800-632-8188

PHP also offers a guide for parents whose children are in DCF custody, available in English and Spanish.
