Top 3 AEC market trends in the Midwest that you should capitalize on in 2017

It’s half way through February in 2017!?  Wow do these calendar years go fast but it definitely seems that job production deadlines come even faster...  The realities are that quality demands have become higher, your deadlines tighter, and bid process competition stiffer.  Oh, all of this and your customer wants you to be mindful of being “green”.  In light of that, the old saying, “The only constant is change” certainly applies to today’s AEC world.

Here is something to consider that may blow your mind – there are more scientists and engineers living, working and innovating today than in all of human history combined.  Therefore, it comes as no surprise and you may have noticed that advancements in many fields (most notably the AEC market) are growing seemingly exponentially.

So what does this all mean for you? The firms who adopt the mindset to continue to strive to be on the cutting edge of the latest and greatest technologies, processes and efficiencies will see their firms grow in 2017 and beyond.

Here’s how you can capitalize in 2017:

  1. Everybody is bringing color plans to the job site.  Not to mention at the beginning design stage in the office.  The reason is simple: color is just flat out better.  There’s a reason that every home in America wasn’t watching the Cubs win the World Series on a black and white TV.  Life is in color.  Your plans are drawn in color.  Better visual acuity for complex overlays.  Quicker distinction between each segment’s intricacies.  For these reasons alone, it goes without saying that color drawings in the field translates to lesser job waste which means more money in your pocket!
  2. More and more jobs are becoming additions and renovations to existing infrastructure.  This is a really good opportunity for firms who are positioned to advantageously attack these job opportunities.  First things first – you need to know what you’re getting into when it comes to these jobs so that you can best formulate a tailored solution to meet a customer’s needs and this can become complex if you’re not prepared.  Enter the importance of understanding legacy drawings of existing infrastructure and exercising the ability to get true, hi-def scans of these legacy drawings then: mark-up, scan, adjust, copy, and provide a clear pictured solution that prove your abilities to a potential customer in this segment.
  3. Keeping overall job costs low to translate to maximum ROI.  Being cost conscious is not just a 2017 thing, it’s an every year, month, day, thing.  As the market gets more competitive in the Midwest, it is more important than ever to understand areas where you can minimize your overall job cost, while still providing a safe worksite and maintaining the quality end result that you pride yourself on and the customer is looking for.  There are newer technologies that translate directly to your bottom line ROI.

2017 will be what you make of it, hopefully a fantastic year!  Our hope is that you can capitalize in the ways that you see fit best for the betterment of your business.
