From Our Table to Yours

At our kitchen table, wine is never an afterthought. It’s an intimate part of every evening meal. Bringing together the right combination of food and wine makes everything taste better.

“Finding the right wine and food pairing is one of my favorite parts of being in a winemaking family,” says Suzanne Hunt, Art and Joyce’s younger daughter and Director of Strategic Partnerships and Brand Evolution at Hunt Country. “Our shorthand way of deciding on the right match is: does one plus one equal three?”

In other words, are the food and the wine better together than on their own?

Over the many years that we’ve been making wine, we’ve also been making a lot of food. We’ve amassed quite a collection of recipes created by our family, collaborating chefs, and our customers. This winter we’re revisiting our big box of recipes, trying and retrying dishes that aren’t our usual stand by’s. We’re in the middle of updating our recipes and adding new wines to the pairings.

“We’ve been reminded what a versatile wine our Barrel Fermented Chardonnay is,” says Suzanne. “Paired with fondu or a mild cheese, the Chardonnay has a very distinct, lovely vanilla flavor that gets missed when you sip the wine all on its own.”

We want our wines to be part of the meals that regularly fill your table, too. Give our recipes a look, try a few, and let us know what you think.

Did you know that around 70% of farm workers in our country are men and women from Mexico and Central America?

These are the people keeping food on the American table: fruits, vegetables, dairy, and wine. Right here in the Finger Lakes, vineyards of all sizes depend on these skilled, hard-working immigrants to care for our vines and keep our industry strong.

We greatly appreciate all of the work they do. We're happy to have these men and women, their families and their loved ones, be part of our community.
On Saturday, February 25 at 7 pm, Rufus Cappadocia will be joining us for an intimate concert in our Tasting Room. Rufus is to the cello what Jimi was to the guitar. He destroys any preconceptions you may have about the cello as a classical instrument. Rufus plays by his own rules and envelopes you with his own unique sound and style. Advance ticket purchase is highly recommended as seats are limited. You can get tickets online or by calling us at 800-946-3289. Wine - by the glass or the bottle - and cheese plates can be purchased during the concert.

The Hunt family has been farming west of Keuka Lake in New York’s Finger Lakes for seven generations. In 1981 we started crafting wine and have committed ourselves to caring for the land, water, and air for future generations. We have nearly eliminated our fossil fuel use for heating, cooling and electricity by installing award-winning geothermal and solar systems. We are working to increase soil health through organic amendments, large-scale composting, and mulching.

We craft our wines to be enjoyed by different folks with different tastes. We want our wines to be enjoyed everyday and to be part of the meals that regularly fill your table. Including dessert, which is why we’re the oldest continuous producer of genuine ice wine in the United States.

Winemakers for the people. Stewards of the earth. That’s who we are.
