The next day we put up another poster, which reads: “Hate has no home here” in different languages. The phrase used in the poster was imagined by a third grader and kindergartener at Peterson Elementary School from the North Park neighborhood in Chicago and has since become a non-partisan movement. From their website: “The Hate Has No Home Here movement is built around a simple idea: it’s easy to hate people we don’t know. Posters and yard signs are just the beginning. What starts as powerful, positive messaging continues in relationship-building, dialogue, and communal action. When neighbors of different races, religions, and nationalities move past indifference to investment in one another, we knock out the underpinnings of racism and intolerance, and make possible a better future for our communities.”
The following Tuesday we held space at the LCC for people to gather in community—to encourage one another in advocacy and to continue “making peace.” Like The Hate Has No Home Here movement, these acts are non-partisan. We do them because we belong to each other. And because we are serious about Love. Love Incarnate… Jesus Christ.
