Mrs Djedid
Message from Head of Campus, Rayyan

Dear Parents,

I hope you and the children had a lovely, restful holiday over half term and have come back to school ready for an eventful next half term, full of ambitious learning.

This morning, it was extremely rewarding to watch our Year 6 assembly and share the children’s learning experiences both at the Ecoventure Expedition and during their work on the MIT STEAM project ‘Need not Greed’ during which our Year 5 and 6 students have researched food waste in school, in Qatar and throughout the world.

Message from Head of Campus, Gharaffa

Dear Parents,

Thank you to all parents who were able to attend our International Parade and breakfast this morning.  It was wonderful to see such a stunning display of costumes.  I would also like to thank you for not only supporting this event but for providing dishes of food for the children to sample culinary delights from around the world.

Madinat Khalifa Year 2 Assembly

Year 2A’s class assembly was led brilliantly by the students, who shared what they had learned about weird and wonderful animals and their habitats, the value of perseverance and the importance of caring for our environment.
Year 4 International Week
Gharaffa Campus

CISD Gharaffa Year 4 has been learning about Italy for International Week. We studied the volcano, Mount Vsuvius, and the city next to it, Pompeii. Next up was to create a chemical reaction using vinegar, baking soda, food dye, washing up liquid and water to create the effect of a volcanic eruption. All Gharaffa Year 4 classes attempted this fascinating experiment during International Week.
Cream Tea Donations for Spring Fete
We are asking for donations of scones and cakes for our ‘cream tea’ stall at the Spring Fete from our parents. Please contact Janet Hobday at janet.hobday@nais.qa with interest.
Nord Anglia partnership with UNICEF
As part of the Nord Anglia partnership with UNICEF, we are focussing on the Global Goal of zero hunger.  We are supporting the Eid Charity who supply food to poor families and the workers in Qatar. We will be collecting dry food such as rice, pasta, biscuits and tin food. Please bring any items to Madinat Khalifa reception.
Travel Advice Update

Some recent changes were made to the UK’s travel advice for Qatar at the end of last week.  The changes amend the way that the UK Government describe any terrorism threat; they do not reflect a change in the travel advice level for Qatar.

Mr Frawley
Message from the Head of Primary, Madinat Khalifa

Dear Parents,

One of the aspects of the school that I am most proud of is, the way we centre the learning round the student. This has been even more evident this week across the whole of the Primary school.

As part of our partnership with the world-renowned university, MIT, our students are set a variety of challenges throughout the year. A particular challenge has been set for our Year 5 and 6 classes who are focusing on issues that affect Doha. Students have brainstormed a variety of issues and each class has chosen their own avenue to explore. Each investigation has been designed, enacted and recorded by the students.

Homework off to a flying start.

After another busy week in school, I have found some time to review our new Show My Homework, as well as the more established Managebac system.  The range of uploaded homework assignments, tests and presentations has students speaking positively about how easily they can access and complete their homework.

It has been proven that homework has significant impact upon student outcomes and overall academic attainment, which is why we have identified it as one of our five main areas for us to focus upon for the remainder of the school year.

Physical Education Update

CISD Year 8 boys football team traveled to Al Khor for a tournament. The team switched from A231 formation to a 321 formation and were highly organised in defense under the centre half pairing of Max Obbard and the Man of the Tournament, Andrew Wawrzyniak.

The under 12 and 13 boys traveled to international School of London Qatar to play their league games at 7 and 11 a side respectively.

The Year 7 team played well and despite losing a goal from an indirect free kick from 5 yards battled back in the second half. Finn Abbott produced a bit of magic by scoring directly from a corner to ensure that the game ended 1-1.

The under 13's played on a full size pitch for the first time this year and gave a good account of themselves. 1-0 down at half time, the boys struggled against the wind and conceded 3 more goals to lose 4-0.

Despite the unflattering scoreline the boys did really well on a full sized pitch. Man of the Match was Max Obbard.
