SYPO is a microfinance project in Uganda, started in 2011. We give small business loans to women in rural areas of the country, that never before had access to financial services. The women borrow in groups of five, responsible for each other's repayments. They usually invest in agriculture or small shops, but the variety of businesses has been endless (see chart below). We have disbursed over 13,000 microcredits, at >95% repayment. The project pays for all its operational costs with interest charged on the microcredits, but we do need your support to grow and reach the thousands of women that do not yet have access.
We work with a team of ten talented, highly educated Ugandan women, all passionate for the field work they do on a daily basis. You can read more about them on our site.
You can donate for individual micro-entrepreneurs on our website www.microbanker.com. Simply select a microcredit, and donate using PayPal, credit or debit card, or iDeal. The repayments from the women come in as 'credits' in your account; you can recycle those credits to new microentrepreneurs. We ensure that 100% of your donation is used directly to support the women!
We started this website to show you the potential of microfinance in a direct, transparent way. On the site, you can track statistics of the project, interviews with the women, etc. Literally thousands of women have applied for microcredits beyond the ones we are already helping - we're counting on your support to reach them!
