plans underway for expansion of popular freshfarm market

The MVT CID is very excited to have partnered with FRESHFARM Markets to relocate and expand the popular Saturday farmer’s market in 2017. After three years of growing sales and clear feedback from residents that they would enjoy more selection, plans are underway to grow the market substantially with a move to I Street NW, between 4-1/2 and 5th Streets NW and adjacent to Milian Park at 5th and Mass. The plan received 13 letters from neighboring businesses in support of FRESHFARM’s public space application to the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) — a strong signal that surrounding property owners and retailers recognize the value of both the market and related foot traffic to their operations — with ANC6E providing on Tuesday, February 7 its unanimous support for the DDOT request. Check out the recent story in Badwolfdc for more information about this effort, and stay tuned for market and accompanying events schedule updates.

promoting mvt cid economic development opportunities at icsc

Access to quality retail is vital to the MVT CID’s emergence as a “destination of choice” to anyone looking to live, work, do business and entertain in DC. That’s why the MVT CID once again attended the International Council of Shopping Centers’ (ICSC) Mid-Atlantic Conference & Deal Making event at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center at National Harbor. This annual event is a great opportunity for owners, developers, retailers, brokers, lenders, municipalities, property asset managers and product and service providers to gather under one roof to exhibit, make deals and form successful business partnerships. For the expo, the MVT CID co-located in the booth of the Washington DC Economic Partnership — one of 140 trade show exhibitors — to promote neighborhood opportunities to retailers searching for attractive locations to launch or expand their businesses. MVT CID attendance at ICSC two years ago helped lead to a successful lease execution with Tropical Smoothie Café, one of the MVT CID’s newest retail offerings, opening in March 2017. Stay tuned to Triangle Times for additional details!
mvt cid convenes inaugural safety council meeting

In response to concerns expressed in recent months regarding issues pertaining to safety and security within the Mount Vernon Triangle community, and consistent with our clean and safe mission, on January 25 the MVT CID convened an inaugural Safety Council meeting at the Association of American Medical Colleges. Nearly 20 stakeholders from residential, commercial office and retail properties across the CID joined representatives from the Metropolitan Police Department, United States Park Police, National Park Service and the District's Departments of Transportation, Public Works & Health to discuss and solve public safety challenges, enhance our collective safety, and create mechanisms for transparency, accountability, cooperation and, most importantly, results. Scheduled to meet bi-monthly going forward, the Safety Council aims to increase coordination between law enforcement, the MVT CID, and its residents, business owners and commercial tenants with the tangible goal of decreasing crime and increasing public safety within the MVT CID. To receive copies of messages announcing the creation of the Safety Council and the PowerPoint presentation shared at the meeting, please email to info@mvtcid.org
