February 12 2017     Living Links
Led by Rev. Anya Johnston

Much of who we are is shown in our connections to other people, to beliefs, and to causes. Sometimes we must make amendments, breaking a link or adding a new one or learning to be flexible. There is little evidence of spring, but this day is about growth.

Matt Watroba and Rev. Robert Jones in Concert
$12/advance - $15/Door - $5/under 21
http://www.commonchords.net

Matt Watroba returns to Kent with the Rev. Robert Jones for a musical celebration of Black History Month. Their flagship program, "Music that Matters" celebrates diversity through the exploration of two centuries of American roots music. This concert will be as entertaining as it is educational. Everyone will leave with a strong sense of history and how we are all connected. Matt and Robert begin the story in the mid 19th century and bring it all the way up to the modern day. From spirituals to rap, the musical journey includes work songs, sing alongs, songs of struggle and songs of protest.

New UU Classes This Sunday!
Curious?  Interested in learning more?  Ready to take the next step?

Our New UU classes cover everything you wanted to know about the Unitarian Universalist Church of Kent in particular and Unitarian Universalism in general, but didn’t know where to go or whom to ask.  Well, maybe not everything, but we try to give you an overview, a starting point.  Some history of both, some organizational details. Come join the conversation.  And, if you're curious about membership, this is the place to be.

Part 1 will be on Sunday, February 12, from 9-11 am. Part 2 will be on Sunday,February 19, from 9-11 am.  You may attend one or both, although attendance at both is encouraged.  Different topics will be covered in each.  We will gather at the Annex, the yellow house next to the church.

If you have any questions, contact Claudia Miller

“Second Sunday Meet & Greet”
 February 12, 2017
And Every Second Sunday at 11 o’clock

Each Second Sunday, the Membership Team will host a Meet & Greet for newcomers in the Founders’ Lounge at 11:00.  Please join with members of the Membership Committee and Church Staff for coffee, light refreshments, and informal conversation.  Take the opportunity to make yourself known and to meet some friendly folks who can serve as your first circle of UUCK acquaintances!  We’ll do our best to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Cheryl, Diane, Shannon, Mary, Barb, and Claudia will be on hand to help answer your questions, to alert you to activities and opportunities, to “show you the ropes,” and to welcome you and your family.

Please stay for a short visit after First Service, or, come a little early before Second Service.  We look forward to meeting you.  Whether you are “brand new,” “nearly new,” “sort of new”, or just want to meet UUs, plan to stop by the Meet & Greet table in the Founders’ Lounge (same level as sanctuary) at 11 am every Second Sunday of each month.  This is a family friendly event, so kids are welcome.  Nursery care provided

For conference and registration information, visit:

The rising tide of inequality, intolerance and racism makes it more important for UUs to stand up for their values. UUJEC and UUs for Social Justice in the National Capital Region (UUSJ) are organizing a spring conference in Washington DC to give UUs an opportunity to advocate for a vision of a fair and compassionate society directly to decision makers on Capitol Hill.  We cannot take a step back on progress in equality and human rights.  Now more than ever we must act…
