Congratulations on your nomination

Dear Ms. Meredith Markham

Based upon your professional credentials and personal character, you have been nominated by Kenneth Paschal, President of Alabama Family Rights Association, to become a contributing member of the Alabama Equal Custody Advisory Committee.

The Equal Custody Advisory Committee has been established to provide advisory counsel on issues involving children and families to legislators, attorneys and judges. The Committee reviews and makes recommendations on such topics as family and domestic relations, parenting plans, and measures to eliminate the need for most parents to go to court. This effort will maximize the court’s ability to address domestic violence and other serious matters quickly and more thoroughly. This advisory committee will seek alternative solutions and creative solutions to reform our State’s family law and its policies and procedures concerning children and families. The Committee is created by the Alabama Family Rights Association, and chaired by family and constitutional attorney Austin Burdick.

Equal Custody Advisory Committee Meetings - The advisory committee may meet in person, by telephone, or other electronic means available to provide recommendations, suggestions, best practices, review proposed legislation, etc. to facilitate and preserve a child's fundamental right to spend time with and having a meaningful relationship with both of their parents.  This assumes that the child is of two fit parents and the goal will always be to preserve the child and parental rights.

Each advisory committee member shall have experience or an interest in matters involving children and families having a relationship with both parents, extended family and protecting children from being placed at risk. Advisory committee members shall represent a broad spectrum of society and professional disciplines which will contribute valuable experience and knowledge to this process.  Members will consist of individuals that have previously expressed interest in family, community, youth and Alabama family law reform to promote, protect and preserve our families.

Congratulations on your nomination and interest in making a positive change for the children of Alabama. Please respond to kenneth.paschal@alfra.org with ACCEPT or DECLINE as soon as possible.  Please email with any questions or concerns that you might have.  Your participation will be most important and appreciated.

Enclosed here is the synopsis of the proposed legislation that will provide Equal Access for Children – A reform long overdue.
