Hillsboro Public Library receives national award for innovation

|
The Hillsboro Public Library received the Penguin Random House 2017 Library Award for Innovation, which recognizes the nation’s most innovative public libraries and librarians. The Library also received a $1,000 grant, along with a $1,000 book donation.

Council approves creation of
Centro de Prosperidad

The Hillsboro City Council unanimously approved a contract with Centro Cultural de Washington County to open the Centro de Prosperidad (or “Center of Prosperity”) in Downtown Hillsboro this spring.

- The Hillsboro Home Depot store and smoke alarm manufacturer Kidde teamed up to donate 50 smoke alarms to the Hillsboro Fire Department's free program for homeowners who are unable to afford working smoke alarms. Smoke alarms should be replaced every ten years from the date of manufacture.
- Once again, the City of Hillsboro has received the Government Finance Officers Association Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.
- Detections of Cryptosporidium in the Bull Run Watershed have spurred interest in the microscopic parasite. Here in Hillsboro, before water is delivered to customers’ taps, water undergoes a complex filtration and disinfection process, helping to safeguard against Cryptosporidium.
