Spring 2017 Newsletter


NASA has announced that University of Maryland (UMD) A. James Clark School of Engineering alumna Jeanette Epps (M.S. ’94, Ph.D. ‘00) will be part of Expedition 56 to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2018. She will also remain aboard as part of Expedition 57. This posting will make her the first African-American to crew the station and the 13th woman.

Four students, Brian Free, Rubbel Kumar, Wanyi Ng and Rosie Weinstein, have been named "Tomorrow's Engineering Leaders: The 20 Twenties" by Penton's Aviation Week Network.

The University of Maryland (UMD) team, UMDLoop, won the Performance and Operations Award and placed in the top five for overall pod design at this weekend's SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition held in Hawthorne, Calif.

Peaco will present the keynote address at NSCF’s Dr. Robert H. Goddard Memorial Dinner held March 10 in Washington, D.C.
 


Philanthropy

The Glenn L. Martin Foundation has established the Glenn L. Martin Endowed Scholarship in Engineering that will support merit-based scholarships for undergraduate engineering students from the state of Maryland. Given Martin's legacy of pioneering aviation innovation, emphasis will be given to students pursuing aerospace engineering.
