Arts Update: February 2017

The arts in South Surrey and White Rock are starting off to an amazing start with Pop-Up-Town, White Rock re-opening this month. We are happy to announce that we will be occupying the space representing our artist members from August 10 to September 20, 2017. More details about how to get involved are coming soon! 




We would like to welcome our newest members: Marlene & Tom Konyves, Sylvia Hoffman, Eva Kondzialkiewicz, Ellen Cheung, Brenda Worden, Drew McLean, Katrina Giesbrecht, Sussanne Hoiberg, Katherine Garrett, and Breanna Deis.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE PAST FEW WEEKS:
 

Author, Lorimer Shenher joined us in the Turnbull Gallery to read from his book That Lonely Section of Hell as part of our Readings by the Salish Sea literary program. 
 


We invited the community to participate in our  Arts Fundraiser Gala - Art Slam; Battle of the Brushes. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported our fundraiser!

We celebrated Family Day with a Community Hearts art project and Family Tree crafts! 

We wrapped up our first
Textile Printing class with artist Hilary Young! 

Everyone made their own silk screens and one-of-a-kind prints.

THE PIER EXHIBITION
 
The City of White Rock in partnership with Semiahmoo Arts is currently accepting submissions to The Pier Art Exhibition as part of the Art on Display program. All artists are invited to submit a maximum of three works of art that explore The Pier. As the City of White Rock is celebrating its 60th Anniversary in April, we would like to display local artist’s works which embody one of the cities’ most iconic landmarks.
Exhibition: March 16- April 30, 2017
Deadline to register: March 6th, 5pm 2017
 

Calling all amateur and professional photographers!

Double Exposure creates a platform for dialogue between photography and poetry. This exhibition showcases the talent of our community in celebration of two popular annual events: Capture Photography Festival as well as Canada’s National Poetry Month. The purpose of the exhibition is to showcase local photography while forging poetry based on the exhibited photographs.


Deadline:  March 3rd
 

Calling all YOUTH photographers!

Double Exposure invites youth photographers (under 19yrs) to submit up to 3 digital images. All submitted images will be on display in the South Surrey Rec. & Arts Centre lobby from March 30-April 27.

The winner will be awarded $100 toward photography equipment or education.

Solo Art Exhibitions at the White Rock Community Centre

The City of White Rock in partnership with Semiahmoo Arts is currently accepting submissions for artists to exhibit in our upcoming solo art shows. The first show will run from June 15 to July 14, with an opening reception on June 15, 2016.  The second art show will run from Oct 26 to Nov 24, with an opening reception on Oct 26, 2017.


Deadline to Apply: April 3, 6pm

REMINISCENCE, REAWAKENING, REBIRTH ART SHOW
The City of White Rock in partnership with Semiahmoo Arts is currently accepting submissions for Reminiscence, Reawakening, Rebirth Art Show.The premise of this show is to find a work of art from a family member and use this as the basis for a reproduction and a new inspired work. All artists are invited to submit three works of art that must include:
1) Family members piece
2) Replication in similar style (same size canvas or panel)
3) Replication in artists chosen style inspired by family painting (same size canvas or panel)


Deadline to Apply: April 24

Display your ART at South Surrey Recreation and Arts Centre!
 
Semiahmoo Arts have secure exhibition space available in the lobby of the Centre.
We invite our members to exhibit their work for a 4-week period throughout 2017. This space is ideal for displaying sculptural pieces, pottery, textiles, small paintings, etc.
Items may be for sale and Semiahmoo Arts retains 20% commission on all sold items.

To book your space please bring samples or photos of your work to the Semiahmoo Arts office: Wed-Sat 9am-5pm 14601-20 Ave, Surrey
