The Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions 42nd Annual Conference
If you have never been to the annual Alliance conference, you are missing out! 2017’s conference was held in San Francisco, California with the theme, Shaping Our Profession. Demonstrating Our Value. The Alliance’s focus this year is on how we, as continuing education healthcare professionals, can show stakeholders the value we can provide to our organizations. We are called to “lead, advocate, collaborate, innovate and prove the value that continuing education and professional development has in improving healthcare provider competence, performance, patient outcomes and, ultimately, population health”.
The Alliance excels at conveying cutting edge national trends, interdisciplinary accreditation and education, as well as communicating the patient perspective. Examples for simplification of processes and efficiencies amongst other best practices are showcased. There are also many opportunities for connecting with people across the various industries, meeting national experts, and actually being able to have a dialogue with other organizations that are willing to share their best-practices. The Alliance conference app is also very helpful with networking as you are able to view attendees, create your own personalized schedule and view presentations. One great networking opportunity was during the San Francisco Block Party where the exhibit hall was decorated with San Francisco’s various themes. As attendees socialized with cocktails and appetizers, Chinese lion dance troupes came in along with a drum line to kick-off Chinese New Year!
I would have to say though, that my favorite part was seeing TACME’s very own Gayla Bruner, sworn in to be President of Alliance this year. For those of you that have never met Gayla, she is eager to help other CE/CME professionals. She said, “a goal in taking this position is to encourage others to step out and take the opportunity to get involved at the state or national level.” Gayla has been the Director of CME for Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston since 2000, though some of you (such as myself) may know her as your CME surveyor! (Thank God I passed with Accreditation with Commendation! Whew!) Prior to becoming President of Alliance, Gayla served on the TACME Board of Directors as the Treasurer, then as President.
Knowledge gained from various resources such as conferences, state and national trends and your feedback are just a few of the tools we (Texas Medical Association and Texas Alliance for CME Board of Directors) use to plan and create the content for our annual Texas CME Conference. This year’s conference will be held in Houston from June 21st- 23rd. We hope to see all of you there as we continue our tradition of peer-mentoring and collaboration. Please let us know how we can help you to grow in your profession and help you overcome your challenges. WE are here for you.
Sincerely Your Servant Leader,
Jen Cabrera, MBA
TACME President
